I know most detector companies out there will tell you not to swap coils but I had to try it just to see what the results were. Here is my experience:
As per my conversation with Elton a while back about swapping coils between the Teknetics Greek series and the F75, he recommended that I report back with my findings. First of all, my tests started here in my backyard in my test garden. I have both the Tek 4000 and the F75. Both are wonderful machines and very deep in their own class. I then took my test live to hunt a 1/4 acre area that is infested with old rusty bottle caps. This was probably an old camp ground or gathering field near a big church. The area dates back to about the 1st depression (we are in our 2nd depression with the current administration so vote! - oops, I should have left that out; sorry). Anyway, I have found several mercs ,rosies and always a few wheats but stayed away from the area in question due to all of the bottles caps. I decided to use the 8" Tek coil on my F75 in this particular area. Believe me, this set up is super light as it takes off a few ounces at the end of the rod. As for the performance, the Tek coil definitely gave the F75 less chatter and really signaled for a good targets. I never run the threshold but did this time just so I could hear the null when a bottle cap was under the coil. Long story short, you guys may give this one a try, it sure is neat how the F75 runs with the "round" coil.
Interesting note on frequencies; the Tek's are about 7.8 kHz and the F75 is 13 kHz. Always heard the coil/unit match up had to be the same frequency - go figure...?
One last note about ground balance: When I ground balanced the 11" DD coil, the meter was in the upper 50's for this particular area. With the Tek 8" coil, ran in the lower 50's. Not sure if that is all that much of a factor but I thought I'd add that.
Also, the Tek 4000 becomes a beast with the F75 11" DD coil (probably just like the Tek 11" DD coil).
