As most of you have seen Coiltek has a new coil on the way. What does anyone see as the advantage of a coil shaped like this? Basically what I'm asking is, when it passes over a target, how is that target being seen? Just by looks alone an elliptical coil this size would seem to have an advantage over the 10.5" stock in coverage, depth, and separation, but is that the case? When we detect a signal does the coil see the target more vertically, or horizontally, or average both so really there is no difference than a round coil with the same surface area.
11.5" X 8.5" DD elliptical

I have been reading the patents on the Minelab coil for the Explorer and looking at other material on coil design. The shape of the coil in the photo would have those advantages of a Double D plus more ground coverage with the elliptical shape like extending the ;emgtj of a broom for a longer sweep. That is more important than width for ground coverage as you know.
What I found of interest in the patents is the type of wire used, number of turns of wire, and size of the wire, plus the Q of the coil, which is gain, is critical. This is where the better coils are separated from the others. Two double D coils of the same sizes and shapes are not equal which may not be obvious.
Frankly don

I was reading the post and noticed I said Coiltek and not a Coiltex. So the Coiltek products are great from what I hear.
