Ok, another newbie question.

Still learning some of the "detecting language" so I have to ask........what is a "tot lot"?
Thanks,

They're great for fun, quick hunts.

"can slaw" "zincoln" "clad" "merc" "discrimination" "lesche" Ask some average non-detectoring people What do these words mean? Its sort of like a secret handshake!

We sure do have our own language don't we? When I let those kinds of words slip out while talking about our hobby to a non-detectorist, many hardly have a clue as to what I'm talking about. Then it's time for further explanation.

HaHa! Conversations go like this? "So there I was, slinging coil through a chip totlot, full of canslaw, crowncaps, tabs, and screwoffs, pinging a few zincolns, poppin a few clads, raised my disc, and dropped my sens, and hit a nice ticket under the swings! On the way back to the truck, I worked the sod, and nailed a nice old indian fatty at 6"!

" I would sure like to bang a Walker someday, or even a Barber, but so far my best scores are just some green Wheaties".

Hi Ken, I too sometimes feel as if I am still learning the "detecting language" and I have been detecting a long long time. Not that I haven't dug a lot of trash or as some would call it p.o.s., but I have never hunted a tot lot.I think it is the varried personal input and experiences that keeps adding things new and tweaking our detecting interest, so the language is always evolving. I can't deny being a grumpy old man and the thought of digging a totlot gives me the shivers.Just ain't my can of soup, but, need to try it sometime to satisfy my curosity. Maybe at Midnight on a cold night when all the "2 footers" are bunked up.I truly love Kids and God has Blessed me with several, and Grandkids, but many kids are not raised today like what they use/need to be and that is what gives me the shivers about a totlot. I like a nice quite old homesite in the woods with all the bugs and critters, but I know that is not always possible for some folks. Really cool too how it pays pretty good for them sometimes.HH, Charlie

I agree with you 100% on staying out of tot lots. Around here they are bad places to go.I don't mind the kids so much just the seedy parents. And add to that the large numbers of single men who are just lurking or hanging out in thier cars and following you into the bathroom I've learned to just stay away. In fact I wont go MDing within about 30 miles of houston. At least the beaches are't that far away and they are very productive in summer. It's just the girls keeo getting in the way. Oh well I think I can live with that And don't worry, being a grumpy old man is better than being a dead old man any day of the week.
