I have a whole 8 hours on the CTX now, and am still learning. With the ETRAC, I was able to get ptrn files and load them via xchange. If I am understanding your post on the rules for the classroom forum, ptrn file types are not allowed. Only images. Would you mind sharing why that is? I would like to be able to save the time of having to create, and simply download a particular program.

Also, assuming that to be the case, is there a way to get you to send me the patterns you are using? Call me lazy, but why force us to re-invent the wheel? If it is simply so we can learn how to used Xchange2, there are those who have already learned how to,and would like to simply copy the pattern, or others, like me, who will learn how, yet would still appreciated the final product, rather than have to create using a pic.

Anyway, thanks

Dennis Wynne

I have no problem with you getting or sharing files for the CTX 3030. Let me know how this forum can help you accommodate that, and we'll be glad to help. The reason I posted the pictures of the files is because a picture is worth a thousand words. If I were to go into a written statement as to which of the 1750 "notches" were rejected and which were accepted, folks would fall asleep reading it. Not to mention the Audio Profiles, Separation modes, Response, Recovery speed, Pinpoint etc.

I won't call anyone lazy if they don't want to build a program. And I ain't suggesting you re-invent the wheel. But I would suggest that the odds of one person's program working equally well for everyone is highly unlikely. As a Classroom, our intent is to help people understand the functionality of the CTX 3030, not simply copy and paste someone else's programs. I've hunted with this detector for a long, long time. In doing so, I've traveled halfway across the Country, detecting fields, timbers, beaches, yards, parks etc. What I've learned is that, even with a clear understanding of "what makes this thing tick", when I got set up at many of the sites, I had to alter and adjust nearly every program I had prepared ahead of time. Conditions vary, as do the targets of choice! With different conditions, different styles and different target objectives, it is misleading for folks to think there is a "one size fit's all" approach to the CTX 3030. It is an amazing detector that is capable of performing well, right out of the box. But if you've reached the point of wanting to build your own programs, why not build one that maximizes the potential of the detector, for your specific applications?

With that said, again, let me know how we can help share programs and I'll make every effort to accommodate you. HH Randy

OK, Thanks for your rapid and succinct response Randy. Here is one way to help. Upload the ptrn files to the classroom, under ptrn files. Those would logically become a basis for tinkering or customizing our own patterns. These files are at best, a basis of what might work. I modified my ETRAC files quite a bit from where I started. Same with the XS and EXII from 12 years ago.

So, that said, if you would be so kind as to upload some ptrn files for downloading, I think people can and will customize their own. I certainly will. And I thank you in advance for your kindness and dedication to this marvelous machine.

One final note. I paid for my 17 inch coil and my 6 inch coil already, so if you would kindly beat the crap outta minelab and get them to ship some, I would also appreciat that as well.....just philosophically speaking of course.....the beating I mean. LOL

Thanks Randy!

HH

Dennis, ptrning after the experts.......

The exchange 2 isn't that hard is fairly simple after you go thru it a couple of times, the vid I made was actually the 2nd time I had ever used it so yeah there were easier ways to create and transfer settings, just goes to show if I can figure it out, they made it pretty easy.....Randy has spent a large amount of his free time on here and this was the smoothest way to have a classroom were we can all learn this detector, the exchange, and how to run the machine, and it not be more work for him. The screen shots that Randy has put up tells pretty much everything about his settings... check it out, and experiment with it, it's not all that hard.... post your settings questions and I will try to help too..GH

We've been trying to figure out a way to load and store the CTX 3030 program files. At this point, the only files I can upload are the same files you can......gif, jpg, png, jpeg. The CTX 3030 files the programs as .mlf files.

I will visit with the management and see if there is someway to allow .mlf files to be stored and shared. Thanks for your suggestion. HH Randy

I was seeing that too Randy.. thats the reason I posted above. lol it may be easier to just put in the setting than figuring out out to share the file...:lmfao:
