Ohio-Erie Canal Project

AT Old Gold

Does anyone know what the hook is? I think the rectangle plate with the indentation goes to a pot belly stove. The Gun is a half of a toy gun, and a square head nail last night (10/23/2014)

Consider your location to figure the hook out bud. Are you in cotton country?, was it used for grabbing cotton bales ?, that type of thing.

We used to have hay hooks like that with a Dhandle at the top where yours appears broken, a fellow would use one in each hand for grabbing bales,...I think yours is very much older than a square hay bale hook, but I can assume this tool was used for some such a purpose for loading or unloading heavy bags or bales of cargo? Cool finds there!:clapping:

after 3 hours of digging, I think I've learned to use Iron Discriminate to check my target before I dig 2' deep , twice in one morning for a tire rim and an old steel fence post. No good finds on the Ohio-Erie canal this morning, going coin shooting to get my confidence back up again.
