Took off to do some water hunting, but on my drive I happened to notice a Habitat for Humanity construction site![attachment 290638 walker3.jpg]

I fired up the 70 still in totlot settings and went in...straight to the backyard that hadnt been bulldozed...all of a sudden I started hitting pennys, but not your normal penny signals, strange...looked at one and it was my FIRST Indian found with the 70 the rest were wheats! Then I hit another signal that was not sharp or crisp, that turned out to be a 1899 Barber dime! Only the second Barber dime I ever found.[attachment 290639 walker5.jpg]

Then the guy showed up to run the gear, nice fellow, we talked about detecting and he asked if I could find the curbstop, No Problem! Bing! Here it is! He said to go ahead and hunt as he was going to load up a bunch of stumps in a dumptruck, but I left for the Lake...once in the water, I couldnt stop thinking about this place, I'd only been there maybe 10 minutes, this might be the only time a guy can hit it!...so I said the hell with water hunting, and went back...this time I did a ground balance, and set up light since there was a lot of nails, and none of the coins were deep. I headed straight where he had the trackhoe parked, it was now moved, and he was gone with the dumptruck and immediately I got a big signal...I nearly wet myself when this big Walker Half showed up not 2"deep! My First Walker, and First Silver Half! I tried to get a good shot of it in the hole as it hit the light, like you guys do, but i was shaking too much evidently!...[attachment 290641 walker4.jpg]

I got 4 wheats, a 41,42,44,45...the Walker is a 43, and the Barber a 1899, one 07 Indian..a regular clad Q, D and N, and a few zincs..I scanned the dirtpiles to no avail, but I know theres coins in them since all of these were shallow, maybe 4" tops...theres my new hunting rig Rosie in the background....[attachment 290642 walker2.jpg]

I got a strange tingly sensation in my innards when I found that Walker..now I know why you silver guys do what you do![attachment 290643 walker.jpg]

Awesome :clapping:, usually when I see construction starting like that I am working. By the time I get time to go detect it has already been back-filled with red clay dirt and leveled etc... Awesome finds. Big silver is exciting when it pops up out of the dirt.

Mud just got his silver "fix".

Now he is going to become a silver junkie.'

You never know when the habit will start. Could be the first silver dime, first silver quarter, but once you get a walking half, the addiction starts and there is nothing to do but feed it more silver.

Truly outstanding Mr Mud, truly outstanding. One question, though, why in the H**l aren't you still there swinging? Barber and a Walker......:clapping::beers: HH jim tn

Wow, you are forming all sorts of habits now, Mud!! First the ground balancing, then swingin' for silver... what's next, looking for Civil War relics?

Very big congrats on those old coins!! :beers: That's the kind of stuff I'm always looking for but seldom find!

As for why Mud's not still there swinging, I think he can cover a park the size of 3 football fields in an hour and a half tops, so this place was probably like fish in a barrel for him.

WOOT!!!!!! Great job mud! Those walkers really make me shake too lol. Now you no how a under ten coin day can make you feel like a 100+ coin day. (just less tired)

Yeah?..I should go back? Unfortunately, the wife just took off for an appointment, and I'm supposed to watch Granny and the Dog.. but from what I've been told, the Dog and Granny are more responsible than I am...I'm the only one who gets in trouble for taking a crap out in the yard or peeing on the deck!.

If I can just find a 43 copper wheat to fill out this wheatie run...well, that would be about as big a trophy as there is! And all my troubles will be over!...it has been an education this am...I actually had to google "coin values" on these...I had no idea what a "mint mark" was ...I figured it was something a fancy hotel left on your pillow! I sure hope I dont get addicted to old silver hunting...not sure how much of that tingly sensation I can tolerate, being married for so long and all...even gold dont make my heart go THUMP like that Walker Half did!
Mud

:yikes: WOW what a great place to come upon at the right time. Of course it also takes a good bit of skill. Great detecting Mud. I am worried about the thumping of the heart and tingling, that is sure sign you haven't had a drink in sometime. :drinking: Proud of you....Z

Very nice find, but its not fare you just got me convinced to give up silver hunting and go clad stabbing.

Wait till you flip out a silver dollar, I got one.

Ron in WV

Thats the strange thing Zeek, there was NO skill involved, Wish I could claim that, but it was just being at the right place at the right time is all...none of these coins were signals I would have "dug" in my normal hunting mode, they wernt tight or crisp like freshies,...but it was early morning, first stop, you know how it is, a guy gets curious. I'm still thinking about it...how many more old silvers or Indians have I walked right on by?

As far as drinking, yes, it was nearly 8hrs since my last refill, well, truth be told, maybe six, but thats just me, not espousing any doctrine to the rest of you on this subject, to each his own...seems my little rig runs best on alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and just a touch of oatmeal as a binder, perhaps with a bit of meat or fruit now and then in moderation....I loaded up on the latter before I left the house, and am diligently catching up on the former at the moment!! :buds: If I ever flip out a silver dollar, or gold coin, Hillis,or Ron, I'm sure I would bust a spring! :stretcher: Back to clad for me...this old silver is too much excitement, and probably not good for a fellow like me on a daily basis.
Mud

Mud the skill was being able to take notice of a great spot to detect. Nothing get past you.

A barber and walker in the day is something to crow about.

Walking Liberty Half, most beautiful coin in my opinion. Get back there immediately and get serious with your 70. These F series aren't like other units where " high beams in the fog" scenario takes place. I say crank it up, drop the disc and use the 11"dd coil if you have one. That place has more goodies in it....you have to save them......I'm excited for you Mud.

Yep. Finding the curb box never hurts.

There ain't no cure for a silver addiction. It goes into involuntary remission every now and then, but more silver is the only known way to manage it.
Gold works well, but gold usually don't come around much.
Nice work!

Man, I know what you guys mean about finding construction sites and having such a small window of opportunity to hunt them. I see them all the time driving to work and can never get back in time.
Life and work can be so inconvenient at times!
Cheers

Thanks guys, yeah, my first silver in the 1800's too, so that was something alright...I went back this am, 6:30, they had already started excavating,:sadwalk: one little window of opportunity come and gone just that fast.
I'm gonna keep an eye on this place...all the black dirt is in one big pile at the back of the property, once it gets spread back out, I'll give it another sweep for good measure.
Mud

You know, I think all that clad stabbing did me good for an opportunity like this, I knew someday this kind of opportunity would come along, and I would bust a move on it fast......been thinking...yes, clad stabbing makes a guy pretty quick on a place alright...

I may have found another construction spot, I'm gonna work it tomorrow...its a big curbstrip/waterline work several blocks long, so none of the home owners should be upset since their curbstrip is all torn up anyway, and if I wear construction looking clothes, they will just think I'm looking for curbstops or something..[attachment 290795 curb.jpg].
Mud

And so it begins... :)

Mud, I think it's really cool you've gotten a taste for a new facet in metal detecting after all the clad stabbing practice! With your skills and sharp wits I have no doubt you could hang with the best of 'em in no time!

Looking forward to seeing what you find at this new area - judging by the apparent age of the houses in the background it might well be some more old and cool stuff to make us drool.
