They finally had to respond to the market share loses the X70 was inflicting.

I've heard various price points. $1500 w/ Bluetooth, $1500 without Bluetooth, $1700 w/Bluetooth as an option. With White's MAP policy, shopping a street price will be interesting.

Also interesting is how the three frequencies chosen are close to those of the X70.

For those missing the inference, this is all very tongue in cheek.:heh: Well maybe not completely.:punch:

If the price of the X-Terra 70 were to suddenly drop a few pennies, that might prove to be the fly in the ointment for Whites. The only thing I can't understand is why they haven't revamped the 20 year old Whites case design to match these new additions? Already there's a lot of concern that this new detector is demanding a lot of juice to both process the information from the coil PLUS feed the color screen. Note Also: Some people are saying it's just a concept detector, others claim it won't be released for some time.

Whites have been around for a long time... same with Garrett & Fisher... but Minelab own Patents to some of the most recent innovative features in relation to modern detectors... and this means numerous other manufacturers have to either tread carefully to avoid Patent infringement issues or just release a dumbed down detector and try to "talk it up" at release. That may not be the case with this new detector but it should be interesting to see if it lives up to the hype. Sometimes an over enthusiastic announcement is made by others simply to reduce the sales of a competitor. Without a release date and official listing on the Whites site at this time, this appears to be the case in this instance. Perhaps such decisions were made as a result of the current world economy? There's no doubt that Whites make a very popular range of metal detectors. Should be interesting to watch this one unfold though there's ALWAYS going to be a new detector released in future by any of the manufacturers. I'm more interested to see what the weight of this detector is going to be. The price alone (rumored at USD$1500+) is probably going to scare people. But a "Meteorite Mode"??? Seriously... just switch any detector to ALL METAL and you'll find plenty of iron meteorites.
