That tiresome question again: should I buy the new D2 10" DD coil, or the 6x10 DD, or the 10x12 SEF?

Let me explain: I've gone nuts. Pretty much around the bend. Prompted by an unfulfilled childhood aspiration, and by having followed this forum for about a year now, I've ordered from Kellyco an MXT with the 950 coil and a 4x6 DD "shooter" coil. Again, thanks to many here (but especially to Nancy), in an hour I'll be ordering a Sun Ray DX-1 probe and a pair of Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones. I've got The MXT Edge here. I've ordered a Lesche.

Do you suppose the hunting's any good on the grounds of the poorhouse?

Never mind. To my original question: the MXT will come with a coupon enabling me to buy the new D2 10" DD coil for only $100. Is it actually superior to the 6x10 DD in all respects, except for manoeuvering, as some here have suggested? And has anyone been able to compare/contrast it with the also-new, also-much-praised 10x12 SEF "butterfly" coil?

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse with that question. I also feel like I already know what I should do; that coupon buy for the D2 10" coil is too good to pass up, isn't it?

Must

I also feel like I already know what I should do

As you have said the coil question has been discussed many times. A quick search will cover anything we could add on the subject. After all the discussion we all don't use the same coil. We hunt differently, for different things , and in different ground. You should get what you thing is best. Rob

YES, It's a great coil and I might put that one on before we go back to the old yard.

You'll be surprised at the possibilities of what you'll find at the "poorhouse". My thinking is that there were people there with their one and only worthwhile small possessions and one never knows if they traded or gave it away and then that person lost it. You just never know. I would give it a good try. Keep us posted on the poorhouse if you go. Sounds interesting.

I know you will love the Sun Ray products. If by chance mine would fail me, I would have to purchase the same units.

Thanks for you kind words and best of luck, Nancy

Due to the $100 trump card, your best bet is the D2, for many reasons. I have spent the last three months comparing and using the the EX 10", D2, and the SEF 10X12. Each have their strong points, but the overall winner is the D2. The D2 is well engineered, especially in nulling on rusty iron. The EX 10" loves to find the rusty iron. Depth and separation are almost identical on both. The 10X12 gives you a little better coverage and a slight depth gain, excels on ground noise rejection, but again loves the rusty iron.

As many have stated the performance difference between the 10" Excelerator and D2 is about nil. Considering that you'll save about $60 buying the D2 with the coupon...I'd go with the D2. I've been using it a couple of weeks now and have found two silver dimes, an 1892 Barber quarter (my first) and a silver ring. I have no complaints about the D2, lol.

LOL. Nancy, I believe he was using "hunting at the poorhouse" as a metaphor. I think he meant he is poor after buying all that stuff! :detecting:
