Went for a spin sunday evening to leadsville. About the time I was on location, Huntress calls me on cell and says, "Are you sure you got everything"? My heart sank, as I realized that I had left my gearbag at home. It contains my headlight and glove selections. Now, I could get by without gloves for 1 hunt, but a headlight for night hunting is a MUST!
I quickly decided on a plan of action, to salvage the hunt. I decided that I would go ahead and hunt, since it was still daylight and hunt until I could no longer see the target in my bucket. I could tell how the hunt would be and perhaps not even bother to come back, if the conditions were poor.
Started the spin at 630P and was hunting into a 819P 0.4L and SW winds at 10-15, with the Excal. Tides were still slightly below normal, after the passing of the front. Targets were good density and I was encouraged, with what was coming to hand. I have hunted this area hard in the past and it had reseeded nicely from what I could tell. It was not fresh drop either. You just NEVER get it all!
I was plugging along and got a broken low tone. I dug it and guess what it was? An 18K fine 3G serpentine necklace chain. Everything I read and heard, says Excals have difficulty detecting gold chains. There was no pendant there. Guess that goes to show you Excal users to dig it all, even if it's a questionable signal. I had to go home and get my gearbag at 830P, as I could no longer see the targets in my bucket and was not about to grope around in there without gloves. Rushed home and got the gearbag and called Max and coastwise on the way back to hunt and told them about the chain!

Got back in the water at 945P and was in the same area again, but not exactly in the same spot, based on the landmarks I could see. Did not take my buoys out this evening. Total clad count for the evening was $2.67. Then, I got another broken low tone and up comes the 14K "shrimp" necklace pendant. I do not believe that this piece goes with the necklace, but it is possible. They were not found together or even at the same time. I tried to signal the chain for the pendant and had a couple hits in the area, but nothing I could get to repeat or target. Fanning, with visability is not an option here. Then came a "fart" type signal, bottlecap right? The deeper I dug the target, the better it sounded. It was a clear low tone, by the time I got down to it! Finally got it and it's a stainless steel class of '89 Hitchcock HS boys ring. If you detectives out there wanna do the leg work, send me a PM and I'll give you the poop on it. I don't have time, but would give it back if the owner provides ID and a yearbook w/pic. The last jewelry target was the .925 necklace chain. It was loud and clear! Almost like a clad penny! Are ya'll leaving clad pennies in the ground, because you don't want to deal with them? HMMMMM, perhaps ya'll should dig 'em! It is 28" long and weighs 1.5OZs. It will be a good start on my next silver batch. Got a lode coming back from Midwest Refineries. More on that in another post. Also recovered 4 Chucky Cheese/video game tokens and lead, as ya'll can see. Bailed at 2A.
