a piece of a prinitng plate. That's why everything is reversed. When it's inked and pressed, the writing is readable. Nice find!
 
Most likely used for Newspaper Ads or what have you. I have found a few over the years myself and I keep them since they are kinda neat to add to the collection. Good Luck and HH.
