Official records CD-research

Got this for a Christmas present (purchased from David at Dixie)...I have opened only one of the many files, and have obtained more info on campsites, bivouacs and picket locations within short drives than I could ever imagine. I even found mention of a camp location less than two minutes from where I work. I have been driving past this for 16 years! If it's the area that I think it is, it's kinda' "boggy" and grown up, but should be worth the effort. If it doesn't pan out, I have printed out plenty more "clues" and will be getting topos and looking for property owners' permission. I haven't been this excited in a while. If you don't have this, you should be ashamed. Follow the clues, Dave Poche's tips, and the relics are soon to follow.

Does your set have the search enginn that allows you to find names, units ect? There are 2 differant types of CDs of these one with the search engine one without. A freind has the set without and it takes him a LONG time to find stuff. I also have the CD that has the names of all known Federal and Confederate Soldiers. This one gives the name then the unit, nothing more than that, but it can be helpful.

With search engine...as a matter of fact, after researching some last night, I went out to a location, based on info from the Official records, I found 6 bullets today in less than 45 minutes...and am sure more are to follow in future hunts (when I have more time). This is awesome!

I have this CD with search engine. Very nice and easy to use.

I've found Confederate camps in some of the worse looking ground you could ever imagine. Of course it's hard to say what it may have been like in 1861-65. Hope it pans out. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
