Offer Some Advice For New V3i user ?

I've been metal detecting with the MXT / MXT Pro for about a year now. I've been very satisified with the MXT and have made some ok finds with it. I'm definitely keeping my MXT Pro as a backup. Getting the V3i delivered tomorrow (hopefully).

I know that its got a steeper learning curve than the MXT. I like to hunt for older coins and also do a good bit of Civil War relic hunting down in Louisiana. Any advice for getting started with the V3i ?? I really value your input. Thanks.

I just got a V3i about a month ago so my experience is limited. The best thing is to stick with the stock programs until you get a feel for what it is telling you. You will learn to tweak it as you go. Just make sure you have the combination of RX gain and sensitivity set right. Look at what the stock programs have them set at and that will give you an idea. If it isn't running stable for you don't be afraid to turn the RX down you can do this and still make finds. Don't let the sounds of the programs shake you too bad, you can adjust any program to sound the way that you like. You will learn all of this as you go but keep asking questions as you go and give the machine several hours of time and you will start to learn the language.

Wow EJ, you sure got taken for a ride..........

I think you will really like the V and what it has to offer. If you haven't found the owners manual online yet here it is: http://media.whiteselectronics.com/manuals/V3%20Manuals/spectra_v3i_instruction_manual.pdf This will get you started.

You are pretty much set up to turn on and go with the program I use and the first thing you should adjust is the RX gain and Discrimination Sensitivity. Both should be pretty close to what you will get good stable operation but you can turn them up until it starts to get noisy and back them down a little to get maximum depth. Don't try to do too much at once with the adjustments, just get out there and have fun hunting and learning the basics. I'm just a phone call away.

Just my two cents :)

At first find a program you like and keep your adjustments to the basic. As you improve when you hit a deeper target that looks good or iffy spend a few minutes adjusting your V to see if it improves your confidence, then dig it. There is a lot of great advice given on this forum try and read through as much of it as you can. With time you will get your own Zen with this machine and you will love it :).

Congratz on your V3I CCH ! Try the coin program from the Library or the Relic program from the regular list. Just like your MXT Pro, learn the character of your new machine.
Make minute adjustments with both the Disc and RX sensitivity and watch the character change for better or worse and counter adjust. I don't think you'll have any issues with this great machine. It is a beast of a machine but with time you will have it tamed down to YOUR liking along with great finds. Enjoy the adventure !

Trader! Just kidding.............I hope you like it. HH, Nancy
