How many loved the final episode of 'SIX FEET UNDER'? OMG. Gotta watch again tonight.

Ina, I actually started to post something on that last night and didn't, because it would mean nothing to anybody that didn't watch it.

My wife and I have been watching it from the start. I thought the entire series was a brilliant concept. I thought the series finale was sheer genius and one of the most powerful shows I've ever seen. I got very emotional, actually...I had tears welling big time. I never expected it to end the way they ended it and I was fascinated to see them fast-forward decades ahead and show the deaths and epithets of all the main characters. I was like "WOW!" Simply awesome. Yes, I thought the show was incredible.

And the message? As simple as it was and as obvious as it is, I wonder how many REALLY get it the way we did watching that show:

EVERYBODY DIES.

The only certainty in LIFE is DEATH.

It took a while to get the hang of it but now I go for a brisk 6 miles up and down the length of the boardwalk every time I go detect. It's fun and great exercise. Trust me, I fell down plenty at first. That's why I went to the local high school track to learn first. Now I fly down the boardwalk and the only "gear" I use is the fingerless leather gloves...just in case I fall, but I never do. It's just a real fun way to stay in shape...put on the iPod, crank up the tunes, and rock out.

:super:

How old are you? You seem to have a young heart, not quite the usuall old geek on the beach
(according to my EXwife) sense about you?

I'm about to turn 47 in November. And I do have a young heart. Funny you should say that...I was rollerblading the boardwalk almost one year ago...September 24th...and had a heart attack. While in the best shape of my life. Hereditary...got it from gramps. Never had a clue...colesterol was 140 at the time. Got a little "roto-rooter", a stent, and some drugs and rock on. I do the Nordic Track every day for an hour and usually run afterwards and I rollerblade and either bike ride or walk with the wife on the weekend. I actually just got back from a 5 mile run a little bit ago...time to hit the shower.

This is me from a couple months ago...Max took it.

I jsut turned 41, I am in the WORST shape of my life. 5;9" 195lbs never work out and eat like $h%#. Quite a bit of a couch potato especially when the SciFi channel is on. After my father and brother passed in 95 I kind of went down hill, Anxiety attacks and and stuff that gave me heart fibrilations which scare the crap out of me. May have contributed to my divorce (yep). Any way now I am trying to break ten years of eating junk food and trying to start excersising. Only I got two bad knees (Skatebording is murder even when your young) and two bad discs in the lower back and one in the neck. So I am out to buy me a bike and get my ass off the couch. That way I may look in half as good a shape as you do. My only saving grace is good genes, my grandmother will be 97 in October and no one in the family has ever had a heart problem before 65. although brother died of heart attack at 37, he was skiing and had an accident. Hope your ticker keeps on Rockin.

Take Care

What I didn't mention was that after I retired from the Navy in '98, I also went downhill...gained a lot of weight. Topped out at 252. Went on a diet (Weight Watchers) and started exercising and got down to 182. Shortly after is when I had my heart attack. But the doctor said the weight loss and exercise had nothing to do with it and that if not for that, it would have happened sooner and I might not have survived it. I had a 100% blockage in my right aortic artery...probably was 80 and then a clot clogged it the rest. My BP went to 185 over 158, then down to 50/40! Pulse dropped to 26 in the ambulance. Scary, for sure. I was back at work in 4 days though and doing 3 mile walks with the wife every night. Once they opened the artery up it was like it never happened. So I'm acting like it never did and if I drop dead on my run tomorrow, oh well. I don't think I will, I'm just saying...life goes on. :) I'm doing all I can do to be as healthy as I can and that's that.

Max took the "Before" picture too.

again in the AM telling Pat about it. Second time around was great watching what I missed.

Yeah, I hear you...it was a gut wrencher. I have Cox DVR and I recorded it. I also watched the last 15 minutes again while I was eating my cereal this morning and will likely do it again. That final episode was SO worth the wait! Even though in the last few episodes they had to go and make it all political, I could still forgive them...it was THAT good.

I still eat the Weight Watchers food most of the time and I limit myself to treats but I'm not counting points because I work out so much I have to eat to keep from losing more weight. My goal weight was 185 and I stay between 182 and 187...have been for a while now. All I have to do is keep the exercise up and it's a done deal. So I Nordic Track for an hour a night watching TV and I run 3 to 5 miles a few nights a week and the rollerblading every weekend. It's fun, fairly quick and easy, and I can pretty much eat what I want...within reason. I'll tell you this...it's been since before April 2004 that I had a cheeseburger or fries. Or pizza. Or any of the crap that got me that way. "A moment on the lips and a lifetime on the hips" right?

What a concept...eat right and exercise and you stay fit! Who would have thunk it?
