or what detector has worked best for you in an area loaded with old iron and nails??
Also what is your strategy for working such a site?? Especially if its many acres.
Reason I ask, Ive run across an old town site, ghost town now, with a few locals living in the area. The older residents tell me of others hunting here, but it was 15, 20 years ago. Ive hunted it for four days now, about 25 hours and have found only one bullet. This town has a small bit of Civil War history, and existed in the 1800s, disappeared after the railroad came thru the area, about 15 miles from this town. I have hunted in old home sites with lots of nails and iron, but this is a large area and full of scattered iron. Sometimes my E-Trac stays in a null, even with a very slow swing.
Thanks for the help,
John

What coil are you using? I've hunted an area that defeated me with the stock coil and made some finds with an X-5 coil and TTF.

Ive used a Sunray X8. But what I am attempting is to find out what other machines are good in an area like this and what their strategy would be. I am thinking a Tejon and small coil. I am just not far enough along with the E-Trac and I know that, Ive tried the TTF. I dont want this thread to go in that direction,no offense meant and I do appreciate your reponse.
Thanks again Sailorman,
John

No offense taken! I've also done pretty good in trash with my other machine, an AT-Pro with the 5x8 DD coil. I don't think it's quite as good but it's still pretty darned good and a whole lot lighter! I run in pro audio with 25 to 30 disced out and iron audio off until I have a target to check. Another guy just said he turns off everything below 75 in heavy trash for hunting deep silver. I might have to give it a try.

Trash is mostly what I have to hunt in...

Xp Deus have been working well in such sites.

Tesoro Cibola works great in iron trash. The Tesoro compadre seems to get rave reviews, might be worth it to invest in one just for that place, I think they sell new for around $160.00 about the price of one coil for your etrac.
