4 Hours on the beach. The 3 "new" 2-Euro coins were picked up in the same whole. I guess somebody lost them just the other day...

The weather was gray, very windy, almost cold. No rain, though... Eastern holidays just started. A pity for our people working in tourism on our coast, right now...

1. a copper or brass BOOK MARKER ("Reader's Digest" ?)
2. 9.90 Euro = 11.80 USD
3. 0.50 Belgian Frank (they are EVERYWHERE, grrrr !)
4. key ring, new, lost today or just a couple of days ago
5. "lock to put inside a lock"
6. lead ball from a SHRAPNEL, invented by HENRY SHRAPNEL, that little Devil. Souvenir of World War I ?
7. Very new black marker "ROTRING", in perfect condition. How could I leave it behind, snif ?

All kind of toys : an octopus, a sneaking soldier (wounded !), 2 vehicles (damaged !), etc.

The little lead ball I picked up came from a shrapnel...

Bob,

Being in Europe, that little lead ball may have came from several different things. The Shrapnel that you linked to is a shell for artillery used by most countries for either anti-personnel, or what's known as "flak" to knock airplanes from the sky. The shell would burst in the air and send all those little lead balls in all different directions. During World War II, the Axis used these shells mainly to knock allied bombers out of the sky. You would have to measure the diameter of the ball and do some research to find out more closely what it came from. Here in the states, shotgun shells are loaded with that size lead pellets and called "buckshot", used for hunting. I believe in your area, it is more likely to be "flak" from WWII. Hope this helps, Happy Hunting.

Thank you very much for helping me & us, richetts.

But it is difficult to be sure...

I found this little lead ball on the beach of Westende, a little village only 2-3 miles N-E of Nieuwpoort. Is this neighbourhood, there was a lot of fighting during WW I, too.

But of course, it is possible that it is from Flak in WW II, also...

I found a few before in this regio !

Thank you very much, richetts !
