Ocean treasures....Fishin' :D

I just thought I'd share some pictures of a fishing adventure I went on with one of our hunting buddies, John on his nice boat. We went after work & bottom fished in the RI. waters for fluke. They look like giant flounder & they are great eatin'! But they have to be 17.5" to keep.
Lets hit the bay & see what we can come up with.....
Here's John with a nice sunset behind him. Looks like he's hooked into one.....

My rod began to bend moments later. Puttin' up a decent fight....what's this?? Dang!

Just a flyin' fish (or it's real name is a "Sea Robin"). Real UGLY things...:look:
We caught several of these & threw 'em all back).
Then we all started to get into some keeper fluke.....here's my biggest one of the night....

The water was nice & clam & perfect for this type a fishin'.
The real big ones are called "doormats".....this is not a doormat, but still a real keeper & I have been enjoying his fliets for the last few nights! He'll be dinner tonight as well ;)
Here's all the keepers....5 fluke in all (we caught several that didn't make the 17.5" cut & had to go back) But still lots of fliets to go around....

Thanks for looking,

Both you and John know how to relax, have fun and fill your bellies at the same time :)

Those have got to be one of the strangest fish I have ever seen, They appear to have a set of eyes on one side as they lay on the boats deck.

Good post Bill, Right now the nearest I get to a fish is at Carl's Jr's :)

& the underside is white where they lay on the bottom. That's why you need to put alotta weight on your line & drop the bait down to 'em & jig for 'em.....
Good fun, good eats! :)

They start out like a normal fish, then one eye migrates to the other side. Sometimes you get a "maverick", and the other eye migrates. I can't remember which side the fish is supposed to lay down on.

If you ever make it out our way give me some notice an I will get you out fishing with us. It's too bad our summers are so short because we always run out of warm sunny days before we get our fill of fishing and diving.

Bill,

Nice pictures of your fish. My second hobby next to metal detecting is fly-fishing for trout-I tie my own flies and use a cane bamboo rod from ORVIS. I live in N. VA, and fish primarily the Shenandoah and Southern PA streams where I am initially from. I never could get into sea fishing-but they do look good eating-Bon apetite!

I have never fished for trout, but that sounds like great fun, & yes, it's alot like treasure hunting. Both a good eats too

Bill,

You should try catching those babies on a fly-rod-not only will you experience increased fighting action of the fish-but you'll swear you have "moby dick" on the other end of the line!
