Ocean City MD July 4 weekend hunt - 'Whatever" :cam:

Bia and I decided to hit Ocean City for the 4th of July weekend. In the past we have never found anything there but it was expected to be busy so we thought we might get lucky. Well, we didn't!

All I can say is the people who visit this beach seem to have a certain attitude that SUCKS. During my time out I was stopped every 100 yards by someone asking the infamous question... "Find anything yet?" But there were pleny of others that said things like, and this is word for word...

"If you find any gold it's mine!"
"Hey buddy, I lost a dime here can you help me out?"
"If you find a dollar can I have it?"
"I lost a diamond ring right were your stand'n!"

I walked miles of broken shells till my entire body hurts and together we found a meager nut. We ran into 13 detectorists one evening at low tide and all were complaining and said "We need a storm to move this sand around!" Well, in my opinion, they need a catagory 5 Hurricane to wipe it off the face of the planet. Maybe then a target will show up.

Here it is... out of 245 pictures I'm only posting 3. Bia's best find is a pewter key chain "thing" that spells "Whatever". pfft... It's at the bottom left. Yaaawwwn.

Same thing happened to me on a CT Ocean beach. Was nothing great to be found for an 8 HR hunt and a 1 HR drive :(

Where about did you hunt? Wet/dry combo? I will be going there later this month and plan to spend most of my time in the water during night hunts.

Bia hunted the wet, damp, dry and the cuts- hard! I hunted the the water from the slope to the inner trough out to the middle trough and to the edge of the outer trough but the edge was steep and I could not go any further. Being in neck deep water with waves a foot or two over my head, without a pony pack, is not a good feeling and the currents are pretty tough especially at low tide. I will say that the edge of the sand bar at the outer trough has a seriously steep edge in many places. That is where the bling will be. You need to snorkel and fan to get it!

The reason I'm telling you this is the beach is heavily sanded in and has been for 2 years. The ocean sand has moved to the beach and created a huge sand bar down the coast. Unfortunately, most of the bling, if not all of it, will be out in the deep ocean because the middle sand bar, which is knee deep at low tide and is the start point for swimming crowds, has a gradual edge with many channels that the dropped gold will slide down. Bling will eventually travel to the outer trough with ease! The outer trough edge is dangerous because you can easily step off of it and fall into deep water. Here is a quick profile of the area showing the outer trough which hides the bling. You'd almost have to risk your life to get it! Good luck!
