occasional "stuck" audio when using navigation buttons

Hi All,

Finally got to take the V3 out for a spin after getting the firmware upgrade done. I didn't notice this before, but I do know. Every once in a while I will be navigating through the unit and the audio "beep" that happens when you press a key will "stick"....meaning the sound will keep going until I press that key again, which in turn stops it. It seems to be very random and it has happened with several different keys, not just the arrows. Has anyone noticed this with their machine? If I don't hear from a White's rep on this forum I'll try contacting them soon. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the unit at all, but being so new to it, I can't swear to that. I hope I don't have to send it back in:(

Yes, they can "stick". Only wireless headphones though. You're right, it doesn't affect performance.

Thanks AK. Just one thing. I know you are a knowledgeable regular here and with all due respect, is this your personal opinion or do you know this as a fact? Again, I don't ever recall this happening prior to my 1.3 firmware upgrade. Thanks again.

More than opinion. I have heard it. Unfortunately, didn't hear it until we got 1.3 out, but since it doesn't affect performance, didn't halt production to spend more days on finding the fix for it.

She is WHITE'S ! ! !

LOL! Sorry for my ignorance. I'm relatively new here. I would never expect to get a reply back from the software engineer!!!! WHITE"S ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen that too and also during VCO pinpointing. My V3 is at firmware version 1.1. I started to use Energizer Lithium AA size digital camera batteries in the headphones which hold at 3V through their very long life. 8 batteries cost $16 at Wallymart. The stuck audio problem is almost completely eradicated since I started using those batteries. It used to happen very frequently, now it happens very seldom.

In case anyone is wondering the "stereo to mono", audio phasing issue is still present with the lithium cells. I intend to send my V3 back for upgrade when the weather gets cold.

I noticed that the wireless headphones "eat up" batteries fairly quickly, so, I use the rechargeables. Almost never can go thru 2 days before replacing them. I'm guessing that is just how it is with them and not an issue...is it? Have not had the audio sticking issue with mine as of yet.

Ron, Get in and reset the HP power setting ! ! ! Default is 7..i think. Reset down to 1 and try that. Bump up to 2 if needed.

Jerry

Thanks, Jerry. Pretty hard of hearing, but, didn't think of turning down the power and cranking the volume. Will do that.

Ron do you have plug in Headphones in wen the Auido thing happenn???????????
Mickfin

No, I have the wireless. I turned down the power as far as 2, but, then something strange seemed to occur..I started getting the audio to linger on a tone for even a few seconds as the coil passed over a target. No clue what could have caused that to start.
Has to be something in the "power" setting for the HP. Stayed in that setting yesterday and it did happen fairly often. Haven't been out today where I plan to return to the power of "7" to see if it's gone, but, suspect it might. :nerd:
Not sure if this could relate to original posting problem.

Captain Ron

PS I have the 1.1 firmware.

Hey Ron,

Just an FYI, White's recommends not turning the wireless power down below 5 for "in-field" operation....page 47 of the owner's Manual.

That recommendation starts with the manufacturer of the wireless module. You can probably turn it down below 5, but the manufacturer of the wireless module recommends it be between 5 and 7.

The audio not changing at the lower power levels is because the power level is so low that the information packets are getting missed, so the audio doesn't get told to change. I think you should be able to incrementally increase the power until the packets aren't getting dropped.

Thanks for the info, Anne. As you can see from previous posts, we were trying to see if a setting would make the batteries last a bit longer.
