OC Maryland Hunts

OldBeechnut

Well-known member
Got in a few hours this weekend n a hunt from earlier this month.......water is warmer, and the Sun is Hot...it's time...

Nice rings...glad to see one tungsten that has had some value added to it.

A real assortment of items. Nice return:thumbup:
Good to see some gold & silver on the finds...Big coin count is a plus for the effort, in time it does add up. Surprised none are silver, you guys up north always seem to find the old coins on your beaches.
Were being slammed with a persistent West wind all day and big water in the AM...Hot waters and hotter days are here. GL

Great story behind that ring.....coming this weekend with the return, thanks to OCC on contacting the owner.

Thanks Bob...No Silvers at this beach, it is a fresh drop like yours in the south. Believe I have found 2 silvers here in 7 years, the water is so ruff and the sand is very fluid like so things go down fast, but when the big storms come thru, the gold is like crazy....and we get lucky once and awhile with a silver....

Nice bunch of finds obn, congrats on the gold and nice to see that some of those green quarters have been there awhile, gives one hope ...

Here is the Amazing thing...They just replenished this beach less then 5 months ago......the surf is so ruff here that it churns up the old greens even when they are stuck deep under. As you walk out on the beach you can see the older whiter sand, as you get near the water it is a courser browner sand.....there is a line right up the middle of the beach Old/New...

I'm glad somebody's out there digging. I've been working weekends for the past 3 weeks and more to come. I think I've forgotten how to turn my detector on!!!!!! LOL Still working on getting the boat for fall hunting!!

You had some productive hunts, OBN. I've only found two silver coins in the water since starting water hunting in fall of 2012. Love to find a half dollar or dollar coin, tho. HH. The water is definitely getting warmer, even for my anemic blood. I'm debating on wearing the under armor tomorrow, but since I plan to hit the water at 6 am, I think I will err on the side of caution and wear it.

Well I could use some help..LOL..I hit Sandy Point this morning at 6:30 am, not a soul there....Tuesday Morning...I came home with a pocket full of change, no Gold or Silver but I have never dug that many coins in the 3 years I have hunted that place...think it was like 5 dollars in quarters...

We are going to tear it up this fall buddy, I have many old beach's up your way....{ Don't know what I say that for because you are only 25 minutes away }

Thanks Fongu, These hunts were from a fresh drop beach and the fun is just beginning there...July 15 to Sept 7 is the best time of year for hunting that area....Come fall I'll be back hunting the older Bay Beach's. I know this morning here was perfect, wore the lite drysuit with beach shorts n Tee Shirt...water was ruff for the Bay.... Your Hunt in the AM I would go with the warmer since your going out so early, always strip it off if needed.

I didn't get to the fresh water swim area when I wanted to but the water was still cold for just under armor and pants and shirt. If I had a wetsuit, I'd love to hit the water just before daybreak. It's been in the high 90's for almost 2 weeks, but cloudy rainy weather cooled the water down some. I still found a few goodies even tho I got there late and had to leave early. Looking forward to better finds after July-4th. None of the stuff I've found at the river this year has been a recent drop, tho. 4 to 8 inches with the 5 X 8 coil on the At/Pro and up to 12 inches deep with the 8.5 X 11 inch coil. Hope to hit some different spots if I ever get my car out of the shop, they are too isolated to drive my Mom's car to.

Hey Joe!
Nice finds -return & gold. Thank you for picking me up, some pleasant coversation and sharing some MD time. The cross checking of targets was very educational. Wish we'd done it a little longer.

For anyone who has not seen Joe work a beach: he covers alot of sand with a big coil and digs plenty of deep targets with that titanium excavator. Cross checked a foot + deep quarter in a clearly MD gridded area. My 705 got a # but no sound-but I could hear it in pin point. So I ID'ed it but I would 've missed it. No wonder Joe finds what he does.

I stuck with the CZ20 the rest of the week. Tried the in the surf and got my butt kicked. In the wave zone I learned alot. Got plenty of good targets (coins & silver-no gold). They were all just blips in AM. Most sounded good when checked with zero disc. Many were 2-2.5 scoops down with the T rex. Wish I could tune that thing- I hear absolutely no change at all-none. I can & do manually tune the 705 and a few Whites with no problem. Hopefully some good finds will buy me the CZ21 upgrade.

Anyway- I hope to repeat the pleasure in the near future. Maybe some time when your using your CZ21. Thanks again. Name of the meteorite is Sikote Alin. Ton of info if you look it up.

No stray coin beach coins by chance?
Been once after sandy, my best find. I am after the gold and it is rare there...

Thanks everyone, junk today in OC but my buddy Scott is down for a few days and found some rings

Good to see you haven't lost your touch OBN, i'm still on hold but itching to get out

I love the designs on some of the jewelry found on these forums. Some of the most beautiful and unusual stuff I've ever seen. Glad you and Scott got out and found something worth posting. I planned to go today, but something came up. Maybe early tomorrow. I made the mistake of getting this coastal angler magazine at the place I buy my lawn mower gas and saw all the boats and now even tho I am broker than the government, I'm thinking about what I can sell or trade for a boat small enough to get to the sand bars and places I want to hit on the river/lake, yet put a small ladder on it so I can get my sorry rear end back in the boat. Have to get the ethanol free gas for my riding mower because the 10% ethanol ruined the carb when I was using it. HH.
