Oakracoke Island

From the south end of Nags Head on north you can detect. From the south end of Nags Head and south is National Park "owned" and restricted use. No detectors. A friend owns a property half way between Nags Head and Ocracoke just off the beach and is ready to sell because where they used to be able to surf fish, camp on the beach and have beach fires, the park service now kicks them off the beach at the park service's pleasure to "save the birds and turtles" (even though these friends have also volunteered with turtle breading and rescue groups and know what to protect), is not allowing beach fires or camping overnight, and has been harassing about fishing too.

The following is copied from a write up about visiting Ocracoke:
"All of the ocean beach is owned by the National Park Service as part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Parts of the beach are open to Off-Road Vehicles; please check the park map to find out which ramps are open to driving. Seasonal closures for bird and turtle nesting may be in place. "

Beautiful place to visit, but like many places that are owned by we the people, we the people are no longer allowed to responsibly enjoy our property.
Cheers,
tvr

Unfortunately most of the Island is in the National Seashore. NO Detecting Allowed. Federal Government Dummies as Usual making rules on things that they have no knowledge about.
