but
u need to add in a safety factor to coil wire - not shown
i use a string from excal. to wire, so when u pull against the coil wire it pulls against the string and not the plub going into the end of the excal....................
some claim to have had problems in that area......i for one have had zero and mine was like going on 6 years being back mounted

The home made black box has a voltage regulator (LM317) rigged up as a constant current source.
Has a switch to put out 125ma or 250ma. Its driven by a 21v DC power supply
scavenged from an old laptop. (anything up to 35v DC would do)
I think it is safer than the unregulated charger minelab includes.
Usually charge at 125ma and have a AC timer to turn it off.
Search on "LM317 constant current source" and you'll find it many places.
Here is one example I just found.

i did have one of those minelab junk deals one that hung down on my side, black painted p v c pipe i paid like 20bucks for.........man oh man

the rigs i have tried
here is my latest - will chest mount it - i already have harness rig i were to hold up my scoop - excal will hang down just about the center of my stomach...............untested in the lane so far, works good in my yard...............but will get first test tomorrow in the waves.
