O.K. here goes.. asking those who post here because i have come to respect your thoughts...

Which detector do i buy from these 2... and first know that i will be using it 99% snorkeling and diving shallow. I'm out to get some of the tons of rings lost daily by tourists here on Maui.

1) Garrett Sea Hunter Mark 2

or the cheaper but reviewed as will do....

2) Viper Trident

I ask because i have come to value all of your in put.. so sound off everyone, Mahalo Mike

i also don't spell well either...lol

I wouldn't touch a Chineese Trident with a 10' pole. I have a friend with one and the coil broke off the first time he used it. Look on eBay!! A certain dealer sells them 2 at a time that are broke so you can suposedly make one out of 2. They can't even send them in for repair.

Thanks Scuba, now thats whyi knew asking here would be wise.

Thank you all, but does that mean that the Garrett gets a thumbs down too? or ?:detecting:

Ask the question on the Garrett forum. Somebody there probably uses one. I use 2 Fisher CZ-21's and they work great for me. I don't have the answer to the Garrett. I don't even have a friend that uses one. Sorry. Garrett is a top name company though.

Hello Maui Mike, I'm new to this forum too, I bought a cheap vibratector ($145) a while back and am looking to upgrade too a better one myself, I hear the Excalibur II is nice. Not to pry into your business, but are you planning to hit the beaches in South or West Maui or all of them. I'm sure any of them will produce good results, good luck

Hey Mike, take your time and do a lot of research before you buy anything. I hunted Maui last year and I can tell you a lot of machines don't work well there. The BHID doesn't work well at all there. My cousin used an Excalibur and it worked OK. He got a nice ring with it but he didn't hit a lot of targets. A lot of hunters on Maui don't hunt until the sand moves. I wouldn't rule out pulse machines. I think there is a MD dealer somewhere on Maui. I would check with him and a lot of local hunters to see what they recommend. Good luck.

A mate of mine who does very well TH'ing in Hawaii, swears by his CZ-21 8". He has done comparision tests with the Excal and the CZ-21 outperformed the Excal by a significant margin in that environment. I like my Excal 1000 here in Bermuda and it goes much deeper here than the results found in Hawaii.
