O.K. I've taught the Explorer but still get iron etc...

I have taught the xplorer to pick up on specific coins.
I did everything right...blacked the screen, medium cursor, sensitivity 1, straight up and down over the coin then saved the pattern.
But I still dig iron objects.
What I also don't understand is that when I turn on Iron Mask, is this supposed to mask out the iron so it is not dug? When I turn it on and make it about black 50/50 and stuff shows up on the white side I dig and it may be a nail or some other iron object. I thought if the object showed up in the dark that it was then iron?
This is in my new coin only setting.
Any ideas?

What kind of iron objects? I dont even dig nails at -15 iron mask... be aware if you switch to iron mask from a pattern your pattern no longer is what its using.. iron mask is its own setting..

O.K. Thanks for that important info. I was ignorant of that, that iron mask is it's own setting.
So can I call up the pattern I've saved and then teach it to not accept specific nails, aluminum, bolts, etc. then save that over the current setting?
So say I have a pattern already saved that accepts pennys, nickels, dimes, quarters, 50cent, silver dollars THEN I call that pattern from memory, can I still adjust THAT pattern by teaching it to not accept the junk? Will it add that to the specific called up pattern? Or do I need to start over?
Thanks! I'm learning alot from your pro's.
Tony

It will add to the original "saved" program. If you want to use the new program again, you'll have to "resave" it. (You can retain both of them if you want to)....Bob

if you made an accept coin only pattern, then you wont need to reject anything else, nor will you be able to.. you can only accept more items.. an accept screen should start all black.. or all disced out.. then one by ine you accept the items you want.. everything else will be disc'ed out so theres no way to reject anything.. its already rejected... on a reject screen you start with a completely white screen and reject only the things you want to reject.. everything else is accepted.. I use the edit screen to build patterns mimicking iron mask set around -12 l and save it in one slot.. then if I get into high non ferrous trash I can use that screen to reject some trouble some trash like pull tabs etc..

Here's a tip I just learned about the explorer
it's really helped me on hunting in trash and
on deep iffy targets. the minelab will false
like any other detector but when you get a
good sounding signal go very slow and sweep
the coil very narow over the target only one
inch sweeps or less. iorn falses almost always
go away when you do this and old silver coins
will just scream that high tone. pop cans might
still fool you but you can size them buy sweeping
around the area. Trust the tones they ar much
more accurate than the screen on deep stuff. this
is one amazing detector when you start to learn
how to use it. I pulled a 7 inch deep 1952 dime
out of an area that I could'nt even get a
threshold tone in, solid iorn null but I heard
the high tone narowed my sweep and it just started screaming silver. I do'nt think theirs
another detector out thier that could have found
this dime in this kind of ground. I was very
impressed and I think you will be to when you
start to learn more aboute what it can do.
Good luck

I didn't know that trick about a small sweep.
I think Minelab ought to come out with a new explorer with human voices. When you go over a small dime a childs voice would scream.
When a .50 a man would scream.
When a silver dollar a woman would scream or maybe moan and groan like in ecstasy?
Some people aren't very good with tones being tone deaf but some are good at detecting the differences between voices.
