NW Georgia

Hello all. I am new to this forum, and kinda new to relic hunting. I live in NW Georgia, Whitfield Co. I am looking for some suggestions on where I can swing my detector. I have a few places, but would like to find more. My 7 year old son is also getting into relic hunting. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Happy hunting.

Hey diggertrigger, The obvious spots around Dalton and Resaca have been hunted heavily over the years, however, with the advancements in technology these spots are producing again. Talk to people and get permission to hunt private property. I am not going to point out any specific locations here but there are still unhunted spots on private property in NW Ga.

Thanks ngrelic. I live around Tunnel Hill, and have a few private spots around there and Dalton. I will try Resaca. It seems to be difficult to get permission to hunt around here, even when I have my 7 year old boy with me. I can find places to fish with no problem when I have him with me, but when you mention metal detecting or relic hunting, they seem to hush up, like they have gold buried on there property.

Welcome diggertrigger. Dont give up and keep asking. There is alot of relics still out there. You are going to be told no more than yes. I have lived in Whitfield Co all my life and I am told no, even from folks I have known all my life. Main reasons are the liability, trespassers that have left open holes and the ones that they did give permission to did the same and ruined it for the rest of us. I still run into uncovered holes nearly ever time I go out and I have to fill them so that landowners do not think I have left them. Good luck. :twodetecting:

Thanks for the welcome Smokey63. I will keep asking, and never give up. I have found a few things, and now I am hooked. I am getting my 7 year old boy hooked too. He really enjoys going out and swinging his new youth detector that Santa brought him this Christmas. I would like to find out who owns the mountains on the east side of 75 hwy at Tunnel Hill. That area looks like a great spot, and my research tells me that was a camp during the Battle at Tunnel Hill.

I could not think of a better Christmas present. That side of the mountain you are talking about is mostly private property and all of the West side behind the patrol station is private property. There is some that belongs to the County, but they and the landowners have cut off all vehicle access. Only access is by foot travel, but you have to go thru private property to access that part. I have sent you a PM. :goodnight:

Sorry diggertrigger. I forgot you cant receive messages until you have enough post, so keep posting here and the other forums and I will send when you have enough. There are great folks here and a wealth of info on all the forums!

Thanks smokey63. I was trying to figure out how to get your PM. My email address is on my profile if you would like to send me a message there.

Hey Guys.. I'm also from Tunnel Hill (Mt.Vernon) - Just getting started hunting. It's nice to see some locals on here. Do y'all know of any public places that would be good for a first time trip with my son? I know of some private property that would be nice to hunt on but getting permission may be a problem. I've been trying to think of a spot to take him with out having to ask for permission first.. since it will be our fist time. My machine should be in this week.. Can't wait to get out there! :bouncy:
