Here are my best finds from my last few outings. What a strange detecting month November was. Unusually 'warmer' weather allowed Ronstar and myself some extra detecting time; while taking a lunch break in my car one Friday while detecting alone, another detectorist showed up at my permission, got permission too and started detecting (what are the odds?); found two silver hippie rings on separate ends of town, and glory of glories, a well-worn Masonic ring.
Ronstar and myself were vacuuming up clad at a local school, and when it was almost dark and my hands frozen, I hit a good solid nickel signal with my ctx-- 12-13. I pop the plug in a hurry, as daylight is gone, and I'm transfixed at what I see-- almost as good as a Red Rider BB Gun, this gold ring.
I will admit to, ahem, some excitement. If there were any passers-by, they might have wondered why two men were hunched over in the grass, and then one falls on his back doing a happy dance. God knows how much trash I've dug this year, because of my crazy gold quest.
The ring was worn a long time. It is split, which might be intended. The Yod symbol is gone. The personalized inscription is pretty much worn away too. The owner's surname might have been Symmons. I can certainly make out the year 1917. A specific gravity test puts it in the 10k range.
2020 is winding down while the weather is winding up. I hope to get in one more day this weekend.
