Numbers

I see different people asking about what numbers for what coins, etc. I don't know what the web page was now, maybe some of you do, where a fellow, posted them, where he had checked the numbers to the coins and pulltabs and etc. If someone knows what it is and can post it, it might help some to better know what to look for.

I have used about 15 Explorers and tested a lot of others and find that the numbers will differ by a few digits between units. I would expect that so only look at the digits as a reference. Once you see where a quarter reads on your unit, associate the tone, and location of the crosshairs or the combination or one you use it get to be very easy to unwrap the target before you dig it up.
The greatest accuracy is obtained when you hear a target to be sure you center the target that you think is good before you go for "the reading". It is when centered that the target reads the most accurate so it we need to be sweep the coil over the center when we focus on a target for ID. Pinpoint has an automatic shrinking of the signal if we change the height of the coil so it is importnat to center the target just as explained in the Owners Manual. Once that is done then I weep that centered target for ID. There are many times when the digits will be almost constant but if not then there will be digits that dominate the others. It is worth a mention that trash will give digits in one direction that are very different from another. I use this rather than tones to ID trash if I am in doubt. A myth is that one way hits are always trash. I have found many good dimes and other coins that only sounded in one direction. I another post I will attempt to explain why. So it is up to the users as how to use the screen and one way hits.
The bottom line to me is to check the digital numbers with different items yourself. The reading by others would just be a reference and no better than using some items that you test and note the readings. I often notice reading mentioned that are off by many digits from the ones I get for the same type item in the soil.
