Nugget shooting in AZ

Myself and two other friends are taking a trip to AZ at the end of this month to go nugget shooting. We own mxt's. Mine comes with the stock coil. Any advice on a seperate coil I should take? I would appreciate mabey speaking to someone from AZ who might give us some useful insight into where we should go. I wouldn't mind teaming up with someone who could show us
around. well thanks and Merry Christmas everyone.

Hi,
The 10" elliptical DD coil would be a must-have for your trip. I've used it in some pretty intense mineralization and it did the job well for me. The little 6" elliptical DD is also always with me when prospecting. The 10" is better for general use but the 6" is hotter on small gold and great for nooks and crannies.
I do use the stock coil a lot for nugget detecting. I would normally use it unless mineralization forced me to use the 10" DD.

What about for ground coverage? 14 or 18 Excelerator? Other?

Hi mogold,
The problem with ground coverage is in areas with more intense ground mineralization a larger coil picks up more ground minerals. So larger coils do not work as well under those conditions, and Arizona is famous for tough ground.
I have the new White's 14" DD and 18" EXcelerator. Both work fine for covering more ground, but do not expect lots of extra depth out of them. The 18" is really too big for most people, so a 14" is probably a safer choice. But to repeat, in bad ground the 10" DD may work better.
Happy Hunting!!

Hi Ivan,
There are many gold producing areas in Arizona. Bill Southern's web site as well as his prospecting forum would provide you with a good deal of information. His web page is at:
http://nuggetshooter.com/ and his forum URL is:

As for the best coil to use in the highly mineralized soil of Arizona, Steve's advice on the 6 X 10" DD would be my advice also. Regards, RD
