While detecting at a park with my week old Equinox 600, a man mentioned that two years prior, he had lost his gold wedding band on the soccer field. I told him it was a new detector and while I had found silver the three times I used it, I didn't know what numbers gold would read. I took his number and promised that if I found it (and the inscription was correct), I would be happy to give him a call.
This afternoon on the Equinox forum, I asked what numbers gold read. Most replies were that it all depends on weight, purity, depth, etc. and could ring up anywhere from 1 through 30. Well on responder, Grumpyolddiver, said his two gold bands came in at a solid 18. I decided to first go with that so...
I got to the soccer field that Jose said he remembered losing his ring and began searching. I ignored all deep targets and focused on "18". The first solid 18 I got read two inches, so I dug.... BAM! In the roots of the plug was his ring! I called him up to tell him the good news. He couldn't believe it, but I told him a promise was a promise! I wanted no reward (for I already had it just by finding it for this stranger)!
Thanks again to Grumpyolddiver and.... DIG THOSE 18's!
