Now I went and did it!!!

Hi Everyone!
Now I went and did it!!! I bought my first Minelab Excalibur II today and wanted to thank everyone that inputted their advise and opinions on the Excalibur! I had a couple of hours before dark to try it out. So off to my local swimming hole/beach. I thought I had totally looted this place with my AT-Pro not so! First spin with the Excal produced five rings one of which is a nice Victorian style ring (very nice!) I will post pictures when my sister returns my camera. One thing I didn't like about the Excalibur it seemed to false a lot on iron. My sweep speed might be a little to fast for this unit? I'd get a null with a very quick high tone coming through it and then back to the null then to that growl after going over iron. Rescanned it several times using a slower sweep speed just got that null seemed to do it a lot. My settings DISC 1 Sensitivity AUTO any advise? The one thing I really like about the Excalibur is that gold grunt:thumbup:

Hi, As far as I know, the Excal will always null out over iron. I have owned 4 Excalibur II's and all mine did that. If you were looking for a machine to relic hunt iron targets with, Ic an't recommend this machine to begin with. For metals that are generally viewed as "worthwhile" finding, the Excal II is by far my favorite all weather, all conditions machine. If you swing it over something "good," it will tell you its there and if you swing it over something "bad" it will either null out or let you know its bad. This all applies to Disc mode of course. If you want your Excal II to sound off for the iron junk a well, just put it into PP and your golden. All the relic hunters I know, hunt in PP. Im a gold, silver, platinum etc kind of hunter though. The fact that iron is dead silent couldn't be any more convenient for me. My job is recovery diving for lost valuables and I have yet to be called on a lost valuable that was made of iron. I love this machine and all 4 of the Excals I've owned have paid themselves off many many times over. I wish you the best of luck in getting to know yours and I hope you make many good finds with it. Sounds like you already are. HH Marc

Congrads on your new machine!! Stay out of Auto like Erikk said, And Get to know her, she will treat you well...............

This will make the detector easier to use as you will run a smoother threshold and get to know it faster, I also recommend this too and once you get to know it then go to manual, no sense in making it harder to learn and understand.
