Now here is a large deer..

I have a large deer herd that lives on my place. Almost every night, when it is too dark to take pictures, they come up on the yard and play. It is so fun to watch them leap and bounce around just having fun. In this herd are some large bucks. I have been up close to a huge 5x6 mulie and there are a lot of 4 point, (On each side, western count) and smaller bucks. They lock horns and shove each other around right next to my house.

Tonight I wanted to post a picture of them, but it was too dark again for a photo. I figured if I "Injuned" up close enough I might just get a flash photo. I got close enough for a shot and took this 4 pointer at about 25 feet. It was hard to get any closer with the other 16 deer with him to tip him off of my sneeking. I have had as many as 53 on my lawn at one time. If I could have gotten another 10 feet closer he would have looked a lot better.

The quality is not too good, but you can see his rack pretty well. I will keep trying until I get a good shot of that big old boy, he is much bigger than this one.

.... them up at 2 pre-determined points, angled to approx. where the guest of honour will pose, but also angling them slightly towards you. Firing your main flash sets them off too, a millisecond later. Should give some overall image detail without the harsh black shadows. You should get a reasonable, if not a good shot; ya got him in a Vernon ... er ... a cross fire as it were !

Fairly cheap, maybe $15.00 or so. No cords required. Limited range for them; a local camera shop should be able to set you up. I'm way out of date now as to what may be available; bound to be better and likely more expensive too!

Set out a bit of bait, after 2 or 3 days, the boss buck might pull rank and be the guest of honour ! Great experience to have these lovely animals in the yard, free fertilizer too; hopefully you don't have to haul hay for them.

Good luck

The biggest rack I have ever seen would have been about 1/4 of that size--When I got 100 lbs of meat back from the butcher it was a Large Deer!
