NOTKA IMPACT PROS & CONS ?????

St Bernard

New member
Looking at this detector down the road and would like to know the pros and cons of this detector?? Feedback appreciated

Thanks

That's no different for the Nokta Impact, so just be aware that my feelings might not be shared by you or someone else. Also keep in mind that there is no such thing as a 'perfect' detector that excels for all applications so it is up to the consumer to make sure they select the best detector and settings, as well as pick the right search coil, in order to take advantages of some of the 'Pros' a detector might offer. Here are my opinions of what I like about the Impact:

• The weight, the feel, and the balance.

• The physical appearance and 'packaging' of the Impact's design ... for the most part.

• The build quality.

• Simple, easy-to-use control buttons make the unit very Functional without confusion.

• There are six (6) models that I prefer. They are: GEN, Di-2, Di-3, Di-4, Beach and Deep.

• Functional Tone Break ... complemented by a ....

• Broad-range Audio Tone adjustment.

• Easily viewable TID display with modes that have a very useful range for non-ferrous numeric target response separation.

• A very useful selection of search coils to fit any need.

• An excellent detector stand to protect the detector from dirt, mud and rock damage, and keep it from falling during target recovery.

• A very good selection of three Functional search frequencies .. with ...

• A design start-up at 14 kHz.

There are other operating functions similar to those i enjoy on my Racer 2 and FORS Relic, such as Iron Audio Volume level, that I also like, but overall, for me and the hunting that I prefer to do with a lot of iron debris challenges, the Impact has been/is a joy to use.

If I had to think of a negative or 'Con' about the Impact, it might be the fact the search coil cables are a bit short, and the design to run them inside the rod system hasn't been an issue for me, but I do know a few taller guys who have tried the Impact and they felt it didn't extend long enough for their liking. But that's not really a problem for me so no big deal. :)

I have found my Impact to be a very good general-purpose detector to fit in my regular-Use Tem of detectors and I prefer it with the round 7" Concentric coil mounted full-time. I do have the smaller 5" DD on a spare lower rod for quick-change and I like it when hunting the ugliest of dense iron littered sites. The open-frame 5X9½ DD, although not much larger than the 7" Concentric, is my 3rd favorite search coil for cruising more open, sparser-target areas and I have enjoyed it for Beach Hunting and hitting sports fields, etc. The 7" Concentric can handle those, but there is a different 'feel' and mental pictures we sometimes have, or imagine perhaps, that makes us opt for a different coil and I have those times when the 5X9½ elliptical gets the nod. All of the other search coils for the Impact are in my Accessory Coil Tote so I am always prepared for any site encounter.

Monte's post sums it all. I would add that if you have ever been with Nokta or Makro, their customer service seems unequaled. For a lot of people that is a very important consideration.

There is nothing worse than a company that ignores its customers or doesn't seem to take them seriously when/if they need assistance under or out of warranty.

*** The Impact is firmware upgradable. A lot of new upper scale detectors are but not all of them. That would be a major consideration for me now. I love my CoRe and I feel it's one of its very few drawbacks.

Monte, as always I enjoy your comments. Can you describe your Accessory Coil Tote? Sounds interesting Thanks.

Sure I can. I have four or five of these that I use. One for all extra first aid and medicine items, one for a cook stove and cooking gear and propane tanks, another for extra new flashlights, an emergency radio, and all of my battery supply ... and trust me, I have a lot of AA alkaline batteries for flashlights and metal detectors .. I just bought 6 more 24 packs on Saturday that I added to that tote tonight .. and the last of these totes is for my Accessory Search Coils.

You might wonder what 'extras' I might have on hand, in the way of search coils, in there? I decided to get in there this evening and make a few search coil swaps for my current inventory of detectors so they are all ready for a grab-an-go set-up, and while we're enjoying another shot of wintry weather, very cold and a dash of light snow now and then, I figured I'd get everything ready for a return to spring weather ... soon I hope! I have a good inventory of detectors that I like to keep ready for any Relic Hunting, Coin & Jewelry Hunting and occasional Beach Hunting I enjoy, and that means having a Regular-Use 'Team' of detectors and coils to take on all sorts of site challenges.

But when I travel on a detecting excursion, I can just load this tote into the back of a vehicle, or pickup bed or camp trailer, whatever, and be completely prepared for any hunt site search coil need .. if I am not already equipped with several detectors that are also travelling with me. These totes snap securely and I haven't had any water intrusion from incidental rain events and everything stays dry.

On a regular day-to-day basis I always have at least one and sometimes two detectors in my vehicle just in case I chance upon an opportunity to take on 'right-then.' But when I head off on a vacation or one of the Welcome-to-Hunt Outings I like to travel more prepared. Sometimes on these different detecting trips I also find myself hunting with others who might not have a good coil for the site environment so I then have a 'loaner coil' on-hand. The Accessory Coil Tote can fit in the back of bigger SUV or a pickup bed, or in a travel trailer.

Here are my Regular-Use Team of detectors and the search coils I keep mounted after adjusting them around tonight, all hanging on my den wall tonight because we're headed back down to about 10° to 15° F tonight:

I've had the Impact since christmas, been out many times and found silver in places that should be pounded out . Getting used to digging DEEP targets . At $1350 CDN I have no regrets , The impact is amazing so far . https://youtu.be/PUfPoisfkhY

Nice coin spill at 1:00. No snow, ground unfrozen ? Where are you in Canada ?

I acquired two brand new packaged Makro Pinpointers that I'm adding to the A.C.T. today. My Nokta Pinpointer was stolen last October with a lot of stuff, but I have my Makro Pinpointer on my regular gear belt, and a handy-sized Nokta RS Pointer and spare Lesche Digger that travel with me at all times when I am only toting one detector along. I haven't ever had an issue of any kind with my Makro Pointer and it's comforting to know I have a back-up of two great-performing, reliable waterproof pinpointers at-the-ready.

Biggest pro - it finds rare gold coins:clapping:
Biggest con - for me was the weight, grip, and balance which unfortunately, for me, I found it to be unergonomic, however that's all been remedied with the Kruzer!
