Nothing but pennies today

I did some digging today and found only pennies. I noticed in most of the holes that the ground here where I live as been landscaped. If I dig down past 6 inches i get a layer of sand, then back to normal earth. I am guessing it was from Hugo back in 89. I live right near the beach and all of this got covered in water and washed away. I did find a old Budweiser can that had never been opened with the old pull tab, the peel off and it was about 10 inches down. Every thing I found today was deep and new. I am glad I am finding things but I think the good stuff is way too deep to find. This is only in my yard though. I have to get some batteries and do more practice with the Cortes. Is it normal to get little beeps then when you go back over the same spot you get nothing? Also My I.D. meter changes when I get a target, it will go from good to foil it depends on how many times I run the coil over it. It gets frustrating, but all my big hits have proved to be good so far, well most of them anyway. Any pros with the Cortes have any tips???? Please this TARD IS ALL EARS..........Thanks Ronnie,
PS if any one of you are in town on the holidays, and if you are a good person to be around drop me an email and we can do some diggin. Maybe you will meet my HOT GALFRIEND. Cheers. RB

Well at least you found some pennies then! that has to be better than NOT FINDING them! You will have days where you DONT find anything worthwhile... We all do It's rather like fishing, some days you don't catch anything! but you keep on doing it, because you know there has to be a 'big one' with YOUR name on it somewhere!
Those 'little beeps' are normal, it's just where the detector is deciding whether or not it's a good target. Sometimes it will go 'beep' on the first sweep over this target, you stop in your tracks and sweep over it again, these extra sweeps give the detector the information it needs, and it discriminates it out ... Hey presto, the target has Disappeared! (its junk). It states in the manual that; 'No T.I.D. is 100% accurate. This is why on some targets, the I.D meter 'jumps around'. I believe all detectors with a meter will do this on SOME targets. It can be caused by a small target, or a real deep one on the limit of the detectors depth capabilities. Mineralization can give this effect as well, my machine does this, but as long as the numbers coming up on the screen don't include zero's, I dig it up! most times it is a wanted target. On a target that is giving you jumpy numbers, dig a spade full out, then sweep over the hole, you often find that the I.D numbers settle down now the coil has 'a better view' of the target.
Keep learning your machine Ronnie, it takes time, but it's worth the effort HH charlie(UK)

One thing that I have noticed, and have read others say as well, is that the Cortes likes to be swept slower. I've noticed that if I start swinging too quickly, I get more beeps. If I go slowly over the same area, I dont. I suppose its the discrimination doing its job.
