I noticed there's been interest in how good signals act in nulling, I have done checks and rechecks in the field and find that good tones that would sound through nulling will sound through nulls in iron mask, the preset coins program, and a tight coins program. Apparently if the signal can squeak through a null then it can squeak through nulling no matter what discrimination pattern you use.
Last year I mostly hunted in the preset coins program but also used iron mask and a tight custom coins pattern quite bit in certain hunting sites where needed, anyway, a good percentage of my coin finds where pulled out of the iron nulls and mineralization nulls. I'm actually glad to see that the consensus has begun to accept this ability the Explorer has as viable since it has been noted on the FBS forum in the past as being unable to see goodies through nulling at this level. I guess earlier on it just sounded too incredible to accept that signals could not only sound through nulling but actually sound excellent and clear through nulling.
Now, I know I'm not covering every aspect of tones and nulling, but I want to speak to one aspect of running in Iron mask. Iron Mask allows for finding certain types of targets that otherwise would not have been found(obviously), generally it is the targets that are actually touching an iron object, also targets that are within 1/2 inch of the iron object, or precisely below or above an iron object. These are the targets that cause incorrect curser movement and positioning, and more importantly these targets will not even give an audible tone/signal unless you are running a low iron mask setting. All the other targets that do not fall in this category will sound off and give a good signal through nulling regardless of discrimination patterns. There's more to iron mask than this, mainly it's ability to individualize each target for analyzing but that's another subject.
I just thought I'd pass this on so that those that are having success running custom coin patterns or the preset coins program that they will find goodies in total nulls, and also that if you run a high sensitivity setting(32 manual) to where the total and continuous nulling from mineralization is present that still a clear signal from a good target will amazingly come through. This is a hard thing to believe because it goes against the old rules of thumb in setting sensitivity but it does work. Of course the need to run a set up like this is usually only near the end of working out a site because the high sensitivity will sniff out hidden goodies where a lower sensitivity with threshold would not, ya just need to know when and when not to run this setup.
Good target tones come through nulling in any setting from iron mask thru a tight custom coins pattern, but an iron mask setting will better allow you to find the targets that are touching iron or directly next to, above or below an iron object. Depending on the kind of site you're hunting these type of next to iron targets can be a small percentage of the findable targets, so considering what set up you use at any given site can save you a lot of unnecessary digging. If however your in a site that is just loaded with iron then it may have a higher percentage of these right next to iron goodies so in this case you would run low iron mask.
Here is the link to my video files, there are a couple video clips that show the curser movement when a good target is directly next to or touching iron.........
