Note about 8x6 SEF for my MXT:starwars:

Recently my 8x6 sef coil sent machine into constant overload, called Kellyco and no solution offered for repair. So sliced into casing where it enters coil and there is 2 large grey wires inside and noticed casing on both was broke just before entering coil, and the exposed copper wiring was touching together on each large grey wire....figure this is a grounding wire as seems to encapsule wires inside?..anyways this was making machine go into overload at constant signal....noticed whites coils have another piece attached to casing to help when wires are bent right at coil....so if you dont have same problem yet i would advise taking your own remedy to ease wire bending at coil....just a bit of help to pass along....if not already mentioned.

[size=large]one of the many great reasons for these forums is to pasws along these little nuggetts of knowldge we pick up while owning things.
thanks for the useful post.

Great tip there. Thanks.

Quality control and warranty. The reason I prefer to stick with the manufacturer's coils.

Quality control might have missed this coil, hunting buddies sef has piece that helps wire where bending at coil, but coil 2 years old so warranty expired i believe, and dont see problem buying outside of manufacturers products...i knew product was from overseas and took my own risk in purchasing knowing there wouldnt be much support...dont regret as an excellent coil with great depth and trash separation and i use as main coil which will get beat up faster than ones in my bag.

[size=large]ya take risks ineverything. whites does build quality and i don't read near as many complaints about their products as others

Curt - my comment wasn't aimed specifically at you - more in general than that. Matter of fact, I've modded a detector that voids the warranty. Like you say you make your decision and you take the risk.
