Not sure why but many times clad and silver will pinpoint

at a digital 31-31. Of course if I redo it, it will change, however, I believe this conflicts with Bryce's experience. I am just trying to rule out iron which is still a struggle for me. Sometimes I di and dig a tough to get to target only to have my White's friends come over and tell me it's iron. Of course I then give up. Any advice on determining if a target is most likely iron would be appreciated.

Also, a member of another forum seems to be able to "snake charm" the silver amongst the trach with the stock coil of his etrack...any idea what the trick is? It seems as though I can hear a hi pitched signal on the edge of a trash target quite frequently.

When u get a target that is say iffy..What i would do is toss it into all metal 1st..if it doesnt hit/lock onto iron on the smartfind then I jump into manual sens quick and see wher it hits...If you want to be able to Tell iron from By listening..You can run in ferrous tones..You can set you machine up to still get you high pitch for the silver items...and u will get the low grunt for iron..The nickles will sound lower..but not as low as iron if u set it up..I always ran my SE with Ferrous tones to help me sort thru the iron ..Thats what worked for me,try some other peoples suggestions also till you get something you like ..Good luck.HH

The only problem with ferr tones would be the sounds are determined by the ferr number.... which isnt as reliable as cond sounds. So there might or might not be a coin there. Im still one to dig an iffy target than to think i can rely on the digital reading. Dont get me wrong... if there is too much iron i run ferr also or a pattern. Good advice about AM that does give a much more reliable fix as to where the target might be on the smartscreen. Try raising your coil as you pinpoint, i get those 31 31 when it isnt sure.. you also get them on meteroites beleave it or not. I think you have to try every trick in the book before you walk away and leave yourself wondering. Those whites guys may have a lot of experience... but with their WRAP AROUND they may be walking over good targets. Dont get complancent when hunting. Thats when you are just taking your detector for a walk and not really very effective. I notice myself getting that away after say 6 hours hunting... then i have to slow down and really hunt and my finds start picking up again.

more usable information to help me when making the final decision of whether or not to dig.

My buddy "the Yeti" is an expert XS user but is not liking the digital readouts on his EX2 he now has. Seeing 2 numbers flashing and changing instead of just the one conductive number on his XS is really screwing with him.

Tracking the cursor... in combination with the conductive sounds setting...really helps me make the final decision on whether or not to dig an iffy target when I hit the all metal pinpoint mode on the SE.

Smart find gives you a more flexible feel. You can look at the cursor and hear the tones. After a while you realise that it is not etched in stone there are small deferences. You can see more of a pattern in the ground below the coil.
