Found this today on the first hunt with my Explorer SE. It is approximately six inches in length with the bust on both sides. Thanks.

Thanks Joe. I see you have been tearing it up as always...are you still hunting Drexel?

It doesn't appear to be broken anywhere, does it? If not, I would guess it is a section of link to hang something. I'm picturing a bird feeder but this was probably purposed for something like an oil lamp perhaps.

Trivet? What are those things a person would put a hot pan on to keep it from burning a wood table, back in the day. It would be ideal for a bread loaf pan, but I don't remember seeing any that were long and narrow. They are usually more square or round in general.

I believe you are on to something. I believe it might be part of a gas lamp sconce that hung on the wall. Thanks.

Joe,

Actually, in Ohio. I am visiting my parents and have been digging up their yard.

Is it cast iron or brass? Does it have any visible holes through it that may be jammed with rust, dirt, or mineral deposits?

Floyd

It does have some copper exposed but I can't rule out brass I suppose. Under the bust, there is one hole and what appears to be another right beside it. The holes angle out a bit from the lower portion. It does seem like something was connected to this. I scoured the area where I found it but could not recover anything else.

My original thought was an antique floor lamp arm, but it could have been attached to some other object.
