I am liking my 705 more and more everyday. It's a great detector and the different frequency options for coils is cool. After watching Max's run with the 18.5kHz six inch DD coil, I am going to purchase one. Was on the fence between what 18.5kHz coil to get, but that small one has one thing going for it a like a lot....it's waterproof !

My question is, being a salt water beach hunter for most of my hunting escapades, I know that on a lot of beaches, dual or multi-frequency units run better. Stable, deeper and are not subject to the salt water conductivity or mineralization if applicable.

Was there ever a thread/post about if it were possible for Minelab or CoilTek to come up with a dual frequency coil ( lets say 3kHz and 12 Khz or 5kHz and 15 kHz) for the X-Terra ? Would it require a software update to the X-Terra or would it fly off the shelf ?

Seeing that there are now lighter, quick responding water proof units like the AT Pro, I would love to see a water proof X-Terra with some dual frequency options. Shoot, just an 8 inch, DD, dual frequency water proof coil with a 7 foot cable would be fine for me. I could take the 705 control box off the shaft and put it in a water proof case/pouch and hip mount it. As long as the cable is long enough for me to swing.

I know the 9 inch 3khz concentric works fairly well in the wet sand and suds, but I would imagine a dual frequency coil would work a heck of a lot better.

It would take more than a simple coil to make the Xterra a dual frequency machine. The way that it is designed was unique in it's own right, and it did lead to the innovation of a digital multi-freq waterproof machine....it's called the CTX3030.

I know what you're getting at, but the simple fact is that the Xterra is a single frequency machine that is capable through digital technology to run on ONE of three different frequencies, and it is the first of it's kind. The chip in the coil among other things communicates with the control head to set the parameters by which the machine assigns values to the target's responses to the frequency selected. For the Xterra to do more than it dows would require additional processor power, which would require more battery power, and you eventually end up with a machine that costs much more and weighs 5lbs.....the CTX.

If anyone ever came up with a lightweight, waterproof, dual frequency machine, do they have any idea how many of those things they would sell?
