they shouldn't have been hunting there but the relics do no one any good in the ground. they should have some type of controlled dig on all sites to get those great relics out of the ground.

Those guys were wrong, But no one can see relics in the ground, a controlled hunt, by experienced hunters, and then the relics can be displayed for all to see:twodetecting:

That would be awsome....Just picture this.....all who want to hunt for the museum, register and so many at a time go out and find what ever they can...and then get back and register there finds and they will be displayed at the museum under the detectorist who found them.....that would be fun. Its not all about the $$$..its the thrill of the hunt....at least for me anyway.....Relics in the ground will just rot...

I know of a few people who alledgedly in the UK have participated in what we call "Nighthawking" - none of them have admitted it to me. Which is basically turning up in the night with a torch and a machine and hunting on illegal sites. Those that have been nationally protected which included Roman villas, Henges, Iron Age settlements, Celtic Farmsteads etc. Or farmland where they do not have permission. The most they ever get is a bit of a slap on the wrist from the authorities, unless they meet the farmer, when they tend to get a different kind of a slap! The most recent case did involve a brief prison stint but they had accrued a quarter of a million pounds worth of illegally looted items over a 5 year period. Whos right and whos wrong - I don't know which legal system is better. I do know that Nighthawks have led to me not being allowed access to land and that is really annoying!

Cheers

Just give me the good old country diggin', where the only creatures that I'm likely to encounter are on 4 legs, and don't give a crap what I'm looking for. But I agree that relics should be saved from being lost forever, wherever the location may be.

If the artifacts in the ground are not only public property but the property of future generations then why in the hell are they being left in the ground to rot? If the government doesn't want them found, fine! but cut the phony explanation crap.

most likely due to the market for such relics is good,,,,,,little man would have a few extra bucks....lord forbid little man having money......kick the little man down cyndrum.....keep them poor and needy......so they don't start reading and getting Ideas.......and maybe really seeing whats going on.......they will rot in the ground...or big man will take a stake in them and get a fricken raise!!!!!!!!!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$......Just overwhelmed by all this no trespassing crap......rules and regulations.....fines and f-uped laws.......what ever happened to freedom of happiness.....I demand the right for freedom of speech and the right to persue happiness......some parks around here have no laws for metal detecting but rely on no defacing the park to cover there butt......give me a break.....there is one big fair ground here that is posted no metal detecting......but I am sure there are a few owners and chairpersons who get-r-dug......old old fair....I tell ya I have had enough bull crap........no wonder some risk it to get in those places...I for one would not just cause I am who I am......scared little man not wanting any trouble.....just how the Gov. wants us to be.....good doobees. :rage:
