My neice has been after me to run my detector around her yard, so yesterday was the day. Not even in the trashiest park have I seen so many nails, screws, bolts, big pieces of unidentifiable crumpled chunks of metal of all descriptions. I had been at this for about an hour when she suddenly remembered why it was so trashy - in 1987 a tornado passed through. It flattened the house next door, a couple across the street and took the garage off her house, then proceeded diagonally across her back yard (she didnt live there at the time). Evidently when they rebuilt the house they didn't bother to clean anything up, they just covered it with dirt and planted grass. Did I mention that almost all the trash was exactly 4 inches down? I spent about 3 hours there and found 4 pennys, and several pounds of aluminum siding and roofing nails. Only bright spot is that one of the pennys is a Canadian 1940 in excellent condition. I don't recall ever seeing one before, so that was okay.
