Not shear which Search Coils to buy

Brian Fiske

New member
Hi to all

I am very new to this hobby and have decided on a White mxt as my first metal detectors. I am not shear if I should go with the new mxt 300 with the big Search Coil or is my money better spent on the Standard coil.

I would like to try prospecting and what i have learned is that I will probably need 2 or 3 coils, just not shear which ones.

I would grateful for any help you could give.

Thanks Brian

If you look at the past posts, you will find many of us use different coils for different conditions. I'm sure you will find something there that suits your needs. Welcome to the forum and I wish you all the best, Nancy

Right now Whites is having a good promotional sale, If I were you and wanted to have a good variety of coils for different situations then I would go with the MXT 300 w/ the 12" coil and use my $100.00 coupon for the 10 D2, The reason I say this is that will give you the two most expensive coils right off the bat. The supper 12 is a great open field coil and the 10 D2 is from what I hear is going to be a better coil then the stock 950, and maybe replace it. Then you just have to pick up a smaller coil or two for trashy areas, and you would have a good arsenal of coils. You can pick up the 6 X 10 DD for $152.95 the 4 X 6 Eclipse or the 5,3 Eclipse for $126.95 from kellyco, that would cover most hunting situations. If you price the 12" coil it would run you from Kellyco $219.95 and you can only get the 10 D2 coil from Whites and it will run $249.95, This is why I would go this way, Just my opinion.:detecting::thumbup:

Brian, the MXT is a great prospecting machine you can use any coil that does well in high mineral soils. But my favorite is the 6 X 10 DD

GOLD FOUND THIS YEAR W/ 6 X 10 DD

Bob, if I may ask, in what kind of environment did you go prospecting to find those beautiful specimens? Along streams? In dry washes? Mine tailing piles?

I found these detecting in the desert around Bumble Bee and in the Prescott area of Arizona this past July. That's one of my favorite areas to hunt gold.
Dry washes.
