Not only CTX but ALL Minelab coils

A great informational link on all available Minelab Coils

BUT, still nothing to tell me what is SMART about the CTX-17 17X13 DD smart coil. I did find the following on what a smart coil is:

FBS 2 combines Minelab's FBS multiple frequency rectangular-wave transmission (1.5 kHz

The term "smart coil" refers to the fact that there is a microchip in the coil, which communicates digitally with the microprocessor in the control housing. This digital connection allows each coil to precisely match it's operational characteristics to the detector. Transmitting the data and signals from the coil to the detector digitally greatly reduces the effects of EMF, RFI etc. By having a "cleaner" receive signal, the CTX is capable of operating with less "noise" (and typically a higher level of sensitivity) than detectors that rely solely on analog signals. In addition, the advanced microcontroller in the CTX can process these "non-cluttered" multi-channel signals with more precision, providing extremely accurate target identificaiton and greatly improved target separation.

As a side-note.....the X-TERRA also incorporates a variation of smart coil technology......with a minicontroller in the coil, and one in the detector housing. Every time you start up the X-TERRA, these microcontrollers communicate via a digital data link to establish the coil's configuration, size and exact frequency. This allows the X-TERRA to generate a perfectly matched transmit frequency to the coil.
