like to see whats being found while you're waiting to get out. Today, I tested the soil in my back yard with a screw driver. It was soft, I grabbed my detector, hopped in my car and headed straight for the woods. Today was my first time out in about a week because of snow. After 1 hour of searching I thought for sure I had a silver quarter, but not too bad, it was a mans silver bracelot, I think its WW2 era, engraved with initials. Half hour later up came the 2 Indian head pennies. These three keepers were found deep in the woods where there is a lot of 30/30 brass shells from deer hunters. The brass shells give a meter reading very similar to an Indian head penny so I just walk past most of them. These Indian heads gave a meter reading a couple of numbers higher on only some of the sweeps so I dug thinking this could be an Indian head. The second IH was just a foot away. After a week of waiting these 3 finds made my day. Hope your snow is melting fast. Jabbo

Snow is melting BUT not the friggin ice!! RATS. I want to get out in the water. Rain today on top of the snow here. I love bracelets like that one. Nice find. Same with the indians. I will be out in the woods where I found my 1827 penny soon I hope. Just hope I can stay away from the poison ivy there.

Cabin fever was setting in, had to get out a little. Almost all the snow is gone, soil is soft and I'm thinking will stay soft for the remainder of the winter. Stuff is there but hard to find. The 3 keepers were maybe 6" deep. Lots of brass bullet shells about 3-4" deep. Dave

Way to go!

I would be very happy with those finds!!

Congrats!!

I found a 7 digit number engraved on the back, same style as engraved initials. I believe its a Military Service Number but don'r know how to access military records from a Service Number. If the family was still in this area I would contact them and return it.

Finding people with a service number is VERY hard. I tracked down a USAF pilot's family after over 3 years. His ring was from 1947 and he was a bomber pilot.

The military archives were NO help. I got a rude letter saying I was trying to invade his privacy!! I would start with your local VA office. If they can't help. PM me and I can see if my contacts can do anything. I am a vetran and I go to the VA hospital in Detroit when I have medical issues.

He died in 2001 but he had a son with the same name who also was a retired USAF pilot and I sent the ring to him. My ring had his full name inscribed and his graduating class number on the side.

What a beauty. Thats what I call a ring. You know the son was glad to see it again.

Son never saw it and never knew his dad had it!! LOL this is a story we will never know. Son AND his surviving wife NEVER knew he ever went to Michigan. The ring was in perfect shape, could have been lost right after he graduated. But they did thank me for returning it. And yes, lots of gold in that there ring!

Interesting story about how they never knew the dad had this ring, also that they never knew the dad was in Michigan. Any one would wear that ring with pride.

Scuba, I emailed the NJ VA today and gave them the initials and the serial number inscribed on the back. We will see if they come up with any address info about the owner. If no info then I will keep it. HH, Dave
