I used my GT for a while this afternoon at a spot I took my Explorer too on Monday. With the Explorer I got 4 Wheaties and some new pennies at a yard. I notice a lot of nulling and falsing so i took my GT to this yard and decided to try along the sidewalk where I went with the XS II to see what I may have missed. I got a merc that was on top of iron and 3 Wheaties plus a few new pennies. With the merc on top of iron is a signal you learn from use as the tone is only there for a short time, then a null. The meter you can get to 180, but then goes negative numbers. In most cases these are iron falses and why I like to try to get the signal to the tip of the coil where is sounds good, the turn and come at it from a different angle to see if this signal will null or move as it is a sure sign of iron, but this one didn't null over that same spot and never moved,so it was one you have to dig. When i got the merc out and went over it it nulled in disc and gave a nice signal in all metal pinpoint.
Like usual the GT impresses me with the finds it will get and what it can get in areas worked by other detectors. I also feel by use and experience with the Sovereigns you learn more every time you use it and you will get better with it and surprise others plus yourself how well this detector will work.

Just had to post something to keep this forum alive.

Playing with an Airforce Talon. Trying to find best pellets, pellet lube, power setting, and air tank pressure. Many hours target shooting over a chronograph. Much work refilling air tank with a three stage hand pump.
Much time involved looking for that "sweet spot" that gives super accuracy.

Will eventually get back to detecting.

[attachment 26349 scan576.jpg]Looks like you're looking for some new reading material, so I'll give you an update on the meter problem I posted earlier.
I had'nt used this xs for about 2 years. When I started using it this spring, it worked fine with the old batteries. Since they were old, figured I'd better replace them. Problem started with new batteries. Checked voltage with meter and the old ones read higher than the new ones. Old ones were Ray-O-Vac, new ones were copper tops. XS did'nt indicate it had low voltage.

And for your amusment here is a pic of a token I've had for almost 50 years. You probobly have one or remember it.

Surprisingly I don't have that token in all the years I have been detecting. This is the one from the Biltmore Motor Motel that was along the Interstate 29 and Main ave in Fargo,ND. I believe it was built around in the early 1960 and was for the bar that was in it. The place it still there and called the Kelly Inn now.
Batteries can cause some weird problems with the Sovereigns.I have seen where some will try the rechargeable batteries in the alkaline pack and have some problems as there is not enough voltage to run the Sovereigns correctly. The factory packs and the Sun Rays have 10 1.2 volt batteries in it to supply the 12 volts needed to run it correctly. When I hear of a problem like this I always ask if they are trying to use rechargeable batteries in the alkaline pack, or to try a complete different set of batteries as this is the most common problem with the Sovereigns as not enough voltage to run it correctly.
Many times over the years I have seen some new batteries being bad right out of the package as they are old stock got from some stores that don't sell to many batteries. I always try to buy my batteries from stores that sell a lot of batteries.
Good luck and I wonder if my friend has posted his finds on the Explorer forum he found with his hunting Buddie on Saturday. He got 14 pieces of silver with one a barber half and his partner got a franklin half and a walker half plus some barber quarters and dimes here in northern ND. Just shows there is still good stuff around if you do the research to find those area others don't know about.

An old friend of mine used to tend bar at the Biltmore, and I spent far to much time there. I'm surprised I did'nt spend that token. As a matter of fact, I'm surprised I've lived this long!

I would think all you guys/gals who own one of these Minelabs would love having a forum to post your question and answers and your finds. As I said in my other post LURKERS including me,so I decided to post yesterday to see how many hits there would be 85 and
2 replies. So maybe Alex is right post on the Beach & water forum. Just a shame to me with all the experience and info that ART..Rick..Alex..and others on here have posted and have helped cut down on the learning curve of the Minelabs that this forum is going under.Help for all is here.

Paul,

Maybe some are busy trying different detectors and leaving the Sovereigns sit. They will be back I am sure as I too like to try different detectors, but when the smoke all clears most will back to the Sovereigns if they learned them well.
Maybe some will like to see some pictures too of some of the coins and such the Sovereigns can find.
Here is a picture of the coins from one site that was loaded with nails and we found that the Sovereigns and the Explorers plus a Shadow X2 were the only detectors around that would work here. This was a old fairgrounds that now is a school yard that was filled and now tore up again to do some work, so many of us hit it with these finds over the 2 weeks i was able to be there at 2 hours a time.[attachment 26526 scanner126.jpg]
Here is a couple of rings found one day in one of the well worked parks around here, These were the perfect example of the tones sounding smoother than normal, but reading as a pull tab and why I feel the Sovereign can give you a advantage over other detectors once you know it well.

This next picture is from a well worked park with the XS2 and the 8 inch coinsearch coil and about 18 hours of detecting. This was where you had to go super slow and just listen to the threshold change and work the signal, if the numbers and the tones were trying to climb, but not quite make it were the ones you wanted to dig. Targets were mostly 10-12 inches deep with the help of the S1 probe was the only way to find them. This was done an a challenge as I was told by a guy that worked it good with his detector and could find one old coin he missed he could believe the Sovereign was a better detector. The pictures tells the story and now he uses a Minelab. I was also able to pick up a semi key wheatie for my collection a 1931 S.
