I have a dfx, I have been useing the dfx for about three years and have found alot of silver from seated coins to barber coins, but have always felt that I have been passing alot of coins and tokens up because of the depth, I still have not a great understanding of the dfx machine. I purchased the mxt about a year ago, becuase it looks like it would be a very good machine that would not take alot of understanding to use, I was very disapointed with the machine from the first because it was so noisy and very unstable, It chatters all the time, I brought it out of the closet again about a week ago and have used it everynight trying to prove myself wrong, my settings are coin, ground, center trigger, gain 10, discrim 4, and threshold just hearing the tone, I have tried everything from relic to coin and trigger lock, is there any secrets to help the frustations, If not i got a brand new machine for sale for a smoking price, or my 11 year old boy has a new toy to play with. Thanks for any help Dan

Why not hold a contest, and give it to me? Alternately, you could try a smaller coil.

I had the same problem when I first got mine. I got the Eclipse 5.3 coil, and things were much better, although still a little noisy at + sensitivity. I got the 2 Eclipse DD coils, and now I can run it wide open with minimal static. I understand Whites has since come out with a 14"DD, which I have not used. I imagine this coil would not help in the noise situation.

Relic mode runs still quieter to me. I set disc at 2. I dig a few nickels and a LOT of pop-tops that way.

I am certainly no expert, but I am confident the MXT can cut out a few goodies in massive trash.

I would probably use the relic mode. For the ferrous and non ferrous. A smaller coil would be better, 5" excell or 8" excel. or a whites coil. you should pump the coil several times, then try the lock position. Low disc, take the gain up to the point it's not noisy. Personally, if I hunt schools/parks I rely more on ID # then audio. it's a 2 filter unit , so go slower especially w smaller coils and trashier areas. It's a good all around detector, but noisy, sensitive to small gold or foil. i would switch between modes to check iron content on some of your targets. I've never used a DFX but I'm sure its quieter and smoother. The MXT is more of a prospector machine. I wouldn't give on it yet, it is a turn on and go machine. Good luck.

I use my MXT, and I have had great success with it. You get some chatter because it is very sensitive. I have used other machines, and I prefer the MXT because it is made for serious MDer. I want to hear a little chatter because it tells me when I am getting into an area where there is

Thankyou for all your comments and help, i got my small dd coil that i will try tonight, Thanks again Dan

Hi Dan,
If you decide to part with your MXT, let me know. I love mine and I am looking for a good used one for my mother.
Thank you,
Bill
