Not impressed with the 'job situation'

Pete in MI

New member
Seems they (the temp agency) worked me half to death one night and seems to have forgotten me. I called Monday and talked to them asking about the interview I was supposed to have for the machine maintenance position. The one who handles that was 'indisposed' and was supposed to call me back. Tuesday I still hadn't heard anything back. Today is Wednesday. Still no call back and no jobs to go to. Tomorrow I go there to pick up the check for the one day I worked. I'll ask what the deal is then as to why they didn't give me a call back.

In the meantime I am back to reading the job postings from MichiganWorks (Michigan Talent Bank) and the on line newspaper classified ads. I thought the temp agency was going to be a good thing.

Went detecting today and if I weren't going to be moving I might have had a full time job at a Catholic church/property as a custodian. The guy I got permission to detect on the property was real interested in me for janiotorial and other maintenance work and told me who to talk to, etc. then I mentioned by fall we plan on moving from Lansing so that offer fell by the wayside.

Well keep me in your prayers for work on a daily basis or at least fairly more frequent than once a week.

BTW we need prayers for Casey too. Her sore throat - we thought was strep throat wasn't - but something else nasty. Please pray she gets over this quickly. Thanks for your prayers everyone for Sherry, Casey and myself. Sherry is back to normal - no longer dizzy and her other problem is going away.

Praise and glory be to God our Father and to our Lord Jesus.

and for Casey. Pete I'm in the same boat as you in regards to finding a job. I'm going tommorrow to Caterpillar (I hear they're hiring like crazy), and they actually send you to training for a couple of weeks or more. I'm going to try it out. Plus, there's a Tree Farm and landscape business that's hiring also. Going there early morning around 7 am to get application. Plus, there's another thing this Workforce thing where they try to get you money to go to school or try on the job training as another option. I've been praying that all goes well in this matter. Keep an upper chin Pete you will find that job that God has prepared for you. I've worked for temp agencies and they can be very distant as far as calling is concerned. You sometimes have to call them every week to find out if they have anything in your area of expertise. Take care and I will be praying for you. Thx for your prayers too.

Maybe that one was filled already by another ahead of you! They really don't care where you work, just so you work and bring them in some money! When you get paid they get paid! Part of the hourly wage is theirs! If you want a permanent part-time job, just let them know and tell them you will work but need something more often than what you had that night! They will work you to death if they can and pay you little if they can....but tell them and then be patient until they find the right job for you! Hope this helps and I will be praying for you, Sherry and Casey! Keep giving God praise in all things! Don't grumble nor complain because this will only delay His blessings for you!

God Bless!
Betty

Sorry to hear about Casey. Praying she gets well soon!

About the job situation, you are doing all you can, God will open a door for you. With your experience doing floors, have you ever considered starting a janitorial business of your own? I know people who clean small offices and do real well just doing vaccuming and emptying trash cans. There is a lot of money in floor maintenance too. More and more companies and home owners are switching from carpet to hardwood and tile floors.

You can average about $25 an hour maintaining floors. You can pick up used floor buffers pretty cheap too! Just a thought, Pete.

Praying for you buddy, and God bless!

Doug

is necessary although it does not help the job situation now. Kinda stuck in molasses feeling. Thanks for the prayers Doug.

Though that might be good the main reason for the move is to be closer to our aging parents that are in Sanford (Midland area) and Roscommon. It would also put me closer to my sons and grandson.

Wouldn't mind having you for a neighbor too but we're looking now are the areas of Roscommon, Prudenville, Houghton Lake, Gladwin, West Branch, Beaverton, Harrison - those areas.

Have a couple of 'my own business' ideas for after we get moved.

Hang in there, dont do like me and fall into the old i'll make it work mentallity. God must have a direction for you. Just one of those have faith times and things will work themselves out.

Most of my experiences and others have been nightmares. The LORD will take care of you though. He guaranteed it.
