But I will be "off the air" for a while. The RV Park in which we live is dropping their cable service with Comcast and they are looking at other options for their Cable TV/Internet provider. We are scheduled to lose service tomorrow.

But I'll be back! If I hit something really spectacular I will go somewhere with public WiFi and post....

See ya soon I hope!

Hope you get settled in again without any problems.

OK, new update.... We are now scheduled to lose the cable tv service on the 23rd of Sept. So I'll be around a bit longer hopefully....

Robby, a friend tipped me off to a free and legal way to get WIFI at great distances. I guess there is a little antenna you can buy real cheap that goes inside a coffee can or soup can. You have to take a few measurements of the can and then place the little sensor/antenna type deal at a certain spot in the can. You then plug that into your WIFI as the WIFI's antenna. He said I think it'll pick up a Burger King or some other free WIFI plays from about I think he said 2 to 5 miles away.

He also told me there's another directional antenna you can build cheap that goes inside a PVC pipe and you aim it the direction you want to pick up free WIFI and it'll get much greater distances than the can antenna, but I don't remember how far he said.

I'd look into that, and the best part is that not only is it legal, but it's also completely free and you don't have to pay for internet then monthly.

I sure would be interested in finding out about this as a backup system for when our internet goes out. As long as it's legal.

I've been meaning to look into the antenna thing too for WIFI. My friend told me it's perfectly legal so long as you are picking up WIFI from Burger King or something that is free for patrons. He said there are also programs to hack nearby WIFI codes but that for sure is illegal to do and I wouldn't muck with that. Sounds like no need to anyway since you've got some cheap easy to build antennas to get it long distance the legal way. At least he says it's legal, but don't take my word for it as I haven't looked into it yet.
