Not even 5 weeks & hard broken!

Used the CTX on Tuesday. Traveled on Wednesday. Powered it up on Thursday for a hunt. I got the little startup jingle and then a black screen. The only button that would work is the power button. Reset the battery. Changed the coil. Can't do a reset because I can't see the screen and the buttons don't work anyway. The only good news is that Minelab customer service was all over it and I got a call back within 10 hours and a return label the same day. I just got home and have it boxed up for shipment back tomorrow. I can't understand what went wrong. The only thing I can possibly link it to is a long ride in my truck with temps up to the low 90s. But, the E-trac was riding right next to it and it worked fine. I'm glad I had both along so I could hunt a little before I had to attend the wedding I traveled to. Found a 1917 Merc and a 1925S Wheat. Could only hunt for half a day. I'll update this post once I hear back on what happened to it. So far, the service has been first rate.

Hi Masion Jarr , Well that's Good news 4R both of us about Minelab Is coming through with the service,

So far, so good. The service continues to be great. I got the UPS return label and dropped it off on Monday. It arrived there a little after 10 this morning (central time) and I got a call a little after noon (mountain time) saying they'd received it, the technician was working on it and they'd let me know as soon as they figure out the problem. I'm anxious to see what caused this hard crash. I've never had a machine with a totally black screen before. Will continue updating as I receive them.

Did they send a box with the return label? If so, it reminds me of how IBM and other "quality" vendors handle their laptop repair process. Sending a box or not, it warms my heart to hear that Minelab has adopted a version of this method as well. Nice work Minelab.

No box, but since I'd only had it for a little over a month I still had the shipping box it came in. No news yet on what's wrong with it. Must be serious since they've had 3 days to work on it.

Well, it's repaired and will ship back to me today. The technician (John) said both the screen and the keypad had to be replaced. He was not sure what caused them to malfunction and I don't think I did anything that would have caused it. It was just a case of Murphy's law I suppose. Anyway, I'll be glad to get it back and hopefully finish my silver goal of 50 (at 38 now). The folks I dealt with at Minelab were Brian, Nadia and John. All of them were courteous and professional and I have no complaints with any of them. My only issue, and it's a small one, is that when I sent it in I told them I would be out of state for a couple of weeks and to call me before they shipped it back. That didn't happen and I'm still visiting in Oregon and won't be home until late on the 3rd. The delivery is scheduled for the 2nd to my home in Idaho. I'm hoping I can fix that on the UPS website, but if not they won't send it back because the 4th is a holiday and their 3rd attempt should be on the 5th and I'll be there to receive it. I'll be back in business next weekend!
