Not all detectors are for everyone .....

One may buy a detector after reading how great the detector is from Successful finds posted by others using the chosen detector you purchased.

Yet when you get it .It's a no go. Doesn't do what you expected. Has less depth than you thought etc............noisy, Too Heavy, small screen, No screen, on and on..

Yep it happens and happens often............

Your experience detecting level may play a role. Your ground may play a role. The detector may play a roll. Not all are created equal..

Then There is the " You just do not like it factor too".

Don't fret.. Either time will make it better, or a sell and purchase a different detector can make it better for you. NOT everyone likes the same detectors..

You may find that several years down the road buying the same detector you now hate works great on the second time around purchase. I Know I have experienced that.. So have others..

Don't get mad at who you bought it from. It did what that person wanted, or didn't and they sold it. Experiment with other makes and models. You will find the right detector.
IT MAY TAKE A COUPLE TRIES..........or even more..........

What gets me is when I'm shopping for a detector and some people on the forums (different forums) will be claiming this hot model is the greatest thing sense utters on a cow. So I save some money, shop for a deal, find one and buy it, then in a short time the same people are unloading the same detectors that a couple of Months back was so wonderful

I like customer reviews as much as anybody, but I do wish that people wouldn't give a raved review before they really know much about the detector, at lest wait until the new smell wears off a little.

Slow easy hunts, digging all while learning finds good things. Then old habits click in, and WOW, that same detector isn't working like they thought. Some others tell how great it is just to sell it... Sad but true...
What most people read in print they tend to believe.. That is why a good Dealer visit is the best way to decide in reality.. then you may decide it wasn't just what you wanted too. LOL ..........

Only experience with the different models is a sure determination of what does, and does not work for you........... None are perfect. The secret is finding one that does most of what you want and like !!

Great post Elton, especially for beginners.Like you say there is no such thing as a perfect detector at this present time. Most of todays top end detectors will give a great performance if they are learned properly. If one detector was so much better than the rest everybody would own it would'nt they.Just the fact that many different detectors are used shows that all of them are working for the people that own them, like you say it's all down to personal choice.

Great post Elton!

Superb post! Very true. In the six years I have been detecting I've bought eight detectors. Today I own four. I think having so many choices is a good thing. Every detectorist must simply discover for themselves what is going to work best for them. GL and HH everyone. Matt

Great post. I also started out small 30 plus years ago. I went up the ladder just to fall off. I hated them high dollar things. Did not do any better for me than the small and easy to use models. I sold and lost a lot of money. Now I am happier than a little kid on Christmas Morning. I love my little detectors. I know what they are telling me ( most of the time). I will never buy a high dollar detector again.... KEN

Elton, great point, sometimes it may be better to go through a few detectors for some,LOL this will cure the know it all syndrome. Most of the time its the users fault due to inexperience that it hasn't clicked yet.I have flipped a lot of detectors and have been disappointed until some quality field time on most of these detectors. There are a lot of great detectors out there if people take their time and learn. For me its fun to use new equipment at my old sites to see if the hype was true.HH Ron

Sometimes a different size or type of coil can work wonders on a detector as far as the way it feels and performs for you .

Agree 110%! ... I have went thru a Xterra 705, Fisher F2, Teknetics T2, Garrett AT Pro, Minelab Etrac, White's V3i, as well as used a bunch of different detectors friends have had from Ace 250 to the newer CTX3030 and Deus. I am a tinker and love tech and fell in love with the Etrac and the V3i and how many options and how programmable it can be. I have a friend who is not tech savvy at all, hates the Etrac and V3i, and loves the T2 I sold him.

I think you have a better chance at finding treasure... NOT WITH the most expensive detector or the one with the best reviews.... you'll find treasure with the detector that you like to swing, are comfrtable with the tones and programs, and understand how to set it up for your hunting area.

to each their own....
