...most likely from an old newspaper or magazine advertisement.
Portions of an ad such as headlines, columns of type and illustrations were produced in metal plates (zinc, lead, copper) and then nailed into place on wooden panels called the "furniture". These were then assembled together with other copy in a page layout to print the entire page.
Below, furniture with metal plates in place. Your automobile plate would fit nicely in the bottom corner.
