Not a cannon ball...

I went back to the field behind an offensive position from a battle that attacked a castle in 1704 today. Yesterday I hit a target I just could not get to partly because it was almost dark and I did not want to waste too much time on it and there were several rocks in the hole. Today I brought along a big full sized shovel. Only had about 1.5 hours before it got dark so I got busy. Here is the field, the tough target is down by that patch of trees and brush.

I quickly dug the hole out with a decent shovel, here is the hole at about 12

Just for giggles, would you please air test the same coin with the same hunting settings when & if you get a chance? It may provide some cabin fever discussion points.

Thanks,

we all know that a detector can't go any deeper than it airtests or the diameter of the coil or whatever!

Makes you wonder how deep the 70 will go on a bigger target. I dug a large iron pin up at just over a foot in prospect mode and I knew I was getting close because at that point it started to discriminate the target. My friend was there with his SD 2200 and his machine was still screaming loud and clear. I obviously dug the target anyway because the 70 was still new to me but my mate was impressed by its discrimination ability. Can you remember what readings you were getting with that target? What mode? All metal?
Cheers mate!

I had 8" coil stuck on my brain, I even read another post where someone questioned the 8" coil from the day before, LOL! I was running in all metal mode, sense at 26, the target hit at 32 VDI and did not change much. If anyone else posted they found a Nickel sized coin at 13" with the stock coil I would say that is BS. Weird things happen I guess. HH, Mike

on the coin, I wet down the coin first. Hits around 10" and around 11" at a faster swing. Used a plastic ruler that I stuck in the ground to measure it. I'm sure the coin had leached into the dirt and made for a real nice halo effect in the ground as it is made of zinc, could have been there for 100+ years. These coins never come out of the ground in good condition, I can usually make out what it is, then after they dry the detail is gone. What kind of depth are you all getting on the 9" stock coil in all metal mode? HH, Mike

Good depth on that penny, that goes to show you that the X-Terras can and will go deep. Looks like you had a good time in that field and I noticed a few patches of snow. Nice pics and story...as always. Ron

Oh I don't think you're full of it at all MIke! You're someone that makes so many incredible finds that you have no reason to inflate anything. You also document very well many of your hunts with descriptions of what, where, and how. You also supply many photos to back up what you say you've found and where you found them. Based on this previous post I did I think it's quite do-able, because I still recall this find and how strong the signal was with the HF elliptical DD.
